Your Specific Responsibilities:
This OPS Dental Hygienist full-time position is with the Department of Health in Lake County (DOH-Lake) and is responsible for providing dental services and education to the students in Lake County Public Schools through the School Based Sealant Program (SBSP). The dental hygienist will perform services under the Protocol for Provision of Oral Health Services in Health Access Settings by a Registered Dental Hygienist without the Physical Presence or Prior Examination of a Licensed Dentist – F.S. 466.003(10). Only specified procedures listed on this protocol will be performed and billed to Medicaid. Other Personal Services (OPS) employees do not fill established positions and their employment is considered temporary. OPS Hygienist will work in the clinic on days the schools are closed. The responsibilities of this position are:
Provides preventative dental hygiene services for school-aged children with reasonable proficiency, such as dental sealants, dental prophylaxis, fluoride treatments, and provide age-appropriate oral hygiene instruction and dietary instruction
Effectively interact on a daily basis with school-aged children, addressing questions, fears, and behavioral issues
Ability to work with diverse population
Knowledge of dental hygiene principles and practices
Knowledge of dental terminology and understanding of dental sealant program
Skill in using dental instruments and equipment and in performing dental prophylaxis
Ability to prioritize and organize workload and work independently
Knowledge and experience in working with children
Knowledge of sterilization procedures and regulatory requirements
Navigate the internet, use office and necessary systems/software and standard office equipment and supplies related to position (HMS, People First, FLOSS)
Ability to work a flexible schedule
Performs other duties as directed by the Senior Dentist.
Qualifications:
Minimum –
Willing to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. This may include working in a special needs or Red Cross shelter, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural
Licensed as a Florida Registered Dental Hygienist
Verifiable work experience providing services in a Dentistry office
Current valid driver’s license or State ID. If out of state a Florida driver's license or State ID will be required within 30 days of hire
Verifiable work experience and basic computers skills to include knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Office
