BWXT is currently seeking an Operations Technologist for its location in Lynchburg, VA!

BWX Technologies, Inc. BWXT is seeking an Operations Technologist that will be responsible for supporting the Advanced Technologies (AT) group at the Lynchburg Technology Center in Lynchburg, VA. This facility operates several radioactive facilities including a failure analysis laboratory, mechanical testing laboratory, machine shop, radiochemistry laboratory, nuclear counting laboratory, metals analysis laboratory, and four fuel-handling hot cells. The Operations Technologist will be a part of a team assisting the transition from the development of novel nuclear fuel forms into pilot-scale production.

Job Description / Duties:

Assist engineering team with implementation of a prototypic fuel manufacturing process.

Assist in generation and revision of area operating procedures (AOPs) and technical procedures (TPs) for the processing areas.

Interfaces with chemists, technicians, operators, and internal customers to communicate product deviations, provide production reports, and distribute quality control data to the data science team.

Generate work orders in the manufacturing execution system and maintain the governing process plan outlines.

Assists with trending and process monitoring of various attributes related to production throughput.

Job Qualifications / Requirements:

Minimum of an associate’s degree in a technical field OR 4 years of relevant experience.

Superior written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills are required.

Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is required.

Must be self-motivated and directed with keen attention to detail.

Strong commitment to safety culture and willingness to ensure compliance to all codes and standards is required.

Must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance.

Additional Desired Skillsets:

Previous experience with manufacturing and/or production processes – ball milling, debinding, additive manufacturing, sintering.

Experience operating in an environment that handles special nuclear material (SNM).

Experience with dimensional inspection techniques and/or familiarity with interpretation of dimensional data –optical comparator and/or CNC machines.

Familiarity with imaging equipment – digital camera and/or microscope imaging.

Proficient with Microsoft Office products and project management applications.

Active DOE security clearance.
