  Department Summary

  The College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) is a large and complex college that offers the core liberal arts and sciences curriculum at the University of Oregon. Most undergraduates at UO go on to pursue a degree in one of the College’s 40+ undergraduate degree programs. CAS also has 30+ doctoral programs that produce approximately 75% of the PhDs at the University of Oregon. CAS is home to approximately 750 faculty, over 1000 graduate employees, and 200 administrative employees. CAS has annual budgeted operations expenditures of approximately $156 million and utilizes slightly more than half a million square feet of space spread over 50 separate buildings both on and off campus.

  The CAS Business Office (CBO) provides services in the areas of budget and finance, accounting, contracting and purchasing, human resources, events, and creative services to departments within the College of Arts and Sciences.

  The mission of the CAS Business Office is to provide consistency through centralized services, offering our expertise in processing a wide variety of business operation transactions and functions, including acting as a liaison to the Business Affairs Office, Purchasing and Contracting Services, University Human Resources, Travel Office, and Payroll Administration.   Position Summary

  The Science Stores, housed in the College of Arts and Sciences, partners with UO Purchasing and Contracting Services (PCS) to provide a one-stop shop for academic researchers and local industrial partners. We stock reagents, chemicals, and equipment common to multiple units and departments, and are constantly expanding our inventory to supply necessary materials for research needs.

  The Operations Coordinator position for the Science Stores coordinates operational and logistical processes related to the procurement of supplies and equipment, as well as shipping, receiving, and inventory control. The coordinator will monitor inventory levels, oversee storage, and adjust to customer needs while ensuring compliance with Oregon and Federal law as it applies to hazardous waste and chemical control. The coordinator will also oversee store operations, including space and records management, student employee hiring, onboarding, and supervision, as well as communications and customer service. The position will provide guidance to students, internal and external customers, and faculty, related to these operational and logistical areas.

  This position reports directly to the Associate Director, CASDAS Strategic Initiatives and User Experience, and will work with the Associate Director, as well as a Fisher Scientific representative, to support special projects as needed, developing in-depth knowledge and expertise to consistently coordinate and administer Science Store operations and special projects in assigned areas.

  The person in this position interacts frequently with faculty, students, staff, and external customers, as well as with administrative colleagues throughout the academic and administrative areas of the University. You will work independently as well as as a member of a team, and will handle routine and unexpected matters that require independent judgment calls daily. The position requires strong interpersonal and organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize workload, as well as a commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and the needs of diverse faculty, staff, and students.

  Minimum Requirements

  • Experience performing stores and inventory work; AND

  • Training or experience providing knowledge of inventory control systems, and transportation agencies and shipping methods.

  Professional Competencies

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, solve problems, and stay organized, with keen attention to detail.

  • Ability to understand and follow guidelines, policies, and procedures.

  • Skilled in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and Outlook; ability to learn other specialized software.

  • Demonstrated ability and/or commitment to working with customers and staff from diverse backgrounds in support of an inclusive, welcoming environment.

  • Ability to work effectively under the pressure of competing demands.

  • Adaptability in an environment of change.

  Preferred Qualifications

  • Three years of office and/or warehouse experience which included experience with STEM industries.

  • Lead work and/or supervisory experience, or similar experience coordinating the work of others.

  • Experience working in higher education.

  • Experience working in a laboratory environment.
