GENERAL DESCRIPTIONThe Transportation Division of the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is seeking an Investigator that provides administrative support or technical program assistance work. Work also involves disseminating information, maintaining filing systems, and performing internal administrative support work.The OAG is a dynamic state agency with over 4,000 employees throughout the State of Texas. OAG employees enjoy excellent benefits (https://ers.texas.gov/Benefits-at-a-Glance) along with tremendous opportunities to do important work at a large, dynamic state agency making a positive difference in the lives of Texans.ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONSReview property damage claim files to identify and locate parties responsible for damaging state property in order to obtain compensation for damages.Communicate orally or in writing with insurance companies, claims adjusters, and individuals regarding responsibility/compensation for damages to state property.Conduct background and personal history investigation re: drivers license information and verification of address using legal research tools.Conduct asset research using available legal research toolsDraft correspondence for demand lettersDraft petitions for suits to recover damages to state property.Participate in managing attorneys caseloads, including scheduling, prioritizing, and organizing filesCommunicate with agency personnel, client agencies, court personnel, and opposing counsel.Negotiate settlement terms (within guidelines).Draft release documents and pleadings to dismiss suit.Draft documents to close file.Enters and retrieves information using a computer to update case/calendar records on master fileProvides administrative and clerical support to divisions attorneys and staffFiles pleadings and documents with court clerksConducts investigations, performs research, and drafts petitions, motions, pleadings, orders, briefs, memoranda, and other legal documentsWorks over 40 hours per week as neededProvides excellent customer serviceUses personal vehicle for business-related travelPerforms related work as assignedMaintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functionsAttends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work scheduleEnsures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected informationComplies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrityQualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation: Graduation from high school or equivalentEducation: Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university; may substitute four (4) years full-time administrative support, general office, clerical experience in a professional office environment, or closely related experience for the required education on a year-for-year basis.Experience: One year of full-time experience as an investigatorKnowledge of legal terminology and processesSkill in using a computer for word-processing and data entry/retrievalSkill in effective oral and written communication [writing sample required prior to interview, if selected]Skill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision makingSkill in conducting effective researchSkill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlinesAbility to receive and respond positively to constructive feedbackAbility to work cooperatively with others in a professional office environmentAbility to provide excellent customer serviceAbility to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travelAbility to work more than 40 hours as nee ed and in compliance with the FLSAAbility to lift and relocate 35 lbs.Ability to travel (including overnight travel) up to 5% Ability to type 40 wpm [Typing test required at time of interview]PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSExperience: Microsoft Office softwareExperience: Mainframe applicationsDemonstrated ability to work independently with minimum supervisionBilingual in English and SpanishExperience participating in remote proceedings using Zoom or other teleconference softwareTO APPLYTo apply for a job with the OAG, electronic applications can be submitted through CAPPS Recruit.
