GENERAL DESCRIPTIONUnder the guidance of the Chief of Staff, the Director of Operations performs highly advanced, senior-level managerial activities providing direction to operational management. The Operations Director will manage a diverse team responsible for each of those functional areas. Monitors development and implementation of agency operational activities; oversees implementation of relevant policies, procedures, processes, rules and regulations, controls, and systems; establishes and monitors metrics for determining progress in meeting targets; evaluates the progress of financial activities on a continuous basis. Plans, assigns, and directs the work of the management staff of operational financial divisions.The OAG is a dynamic state agency with over 4,000 employees throughout the State of Texas. OAG employees enjoy excellent benefits (https://ers.texas.gov/Benefits-at-a-Glance) along with tremendous opportunities to do important work at a large, dynamic state agency making a positive difference in the lives of Texans.ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONSServes as the Director of Operations, under the guidance of the Chief of Staff, and oversees the Grants Administration, Procurement Contract Operations, Executive Project Management Office, Information Governance and Facilities Asset Management Divisions.Evaluates trends; establishes and monitors critical metrics; determines production, productivity, quality, and customer-service levels of operations divisions; designs systems; develops staff; and facilitates change management initiatives.Provides the Chief of Staff and internal clients with timely and accurate grants, procurements, and major projects status reports. Initiates corrective actions to mitigate the impact of negative variances.Manages a diverse team responsible for each of those functional areas.Works from office five days a week, most weeks, with ad-hoc telework as needed.Performs related work assignedMaintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functionsAttends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work scheduleEnsures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected informationComplies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrityQualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or universityExperience: Nine years of management experience in state or federal government, corporate and/or public policy.Writing skills in a variety of formats and stylesEffective oral communication, such as speeches, presentations, pitches, and running large meetingsSkill in using the Microsoft Office program suiteSkill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlinesSkill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision makingAbility to clearly convey difficult legal rulings in easy-to-understand language and accessible formatAbility to meet aggressive and last-minute deadlines on parallel tracksAbility to use appropriate judgment in speaking to a variety of mediaAbility to receive and respond positively to constructive feedbackAbility to work cooperatively with others in a professional office environmentAbility to provide excellent customer serviceAbility to work in person at assigned OAG work location, perform all assigned tasks at designated OAG work space within OAG work location, and perform in-person work with coworkers (e.g., collaborating, training, mentoring) for the entirety of every work week (unless on approved leave)Ability to arrange for personal tran portation for business-related travelAbility to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSAAbility to lift and relocate 30 lbs.Ability to travel (including overnight travel) up to 15%PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSExperience: Ten years of management experience in state or federal government, corporate communications, public policy, political campaigns, and/or news media.Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations relevant to public policy and practices of public administration and management.Familiarity with the government and public policy landscape of Texas in particular.TO APPLYTo apply for a job with the OAG, electronic applications can be submitted through CAPPS Recruit.
