Medical/Surgical (6A) is a fast-paced medical/surgical unit that seeshigh acuity patients from a variety of services including medical,surgical, OB/GYN, cardiac, neurology, rehabilitation and observationpatients. 6A is a great environment for new graduate nurses to grow and learnbeneficial clinical skills, and a perfect home for the experienced nurse.The nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5. The CNA-to-patient ratio is 1:10, andall CNAs are cross trained as unit clerks. This is a great environment forcritical thinking, problem solving and career advancement.
Job Summary
The Nursing Apprentice, under the direct supervision of an RN, performsbasic patient care activities. The Nursing Apprentice role allows nursingstudents an opportunity to enhance clinical skills in a hospital environmentwhile still enrolled in an ADN or BSN program. The Nursing Apprentice Iadheres to the American Nurses Association (ANA) standards of professionalnursing and performance, and the ANA Code of Ethics (2015) to providecare to all patients. Utilizes the Theory of Human Caring and Caritas in dailypractice. "Jean Watson, PhD, RN, AHN-BC, FAAN, Founder /Director, Watson Caring Science Institute".
Essential Functions:
Performs basic patient care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN,including but not limited to, monitoring vital signs, taking blood glucosemeasurements, and recording intake and output. (30%)Assists patients with tending to personal care and activities of dailyliving, including but not limited to, bathing, grooming and eating. (10%)Reports abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotionalconditions to nursing staff. (10%)Assists with keeping unit(s) and patient rooms stocked, clean, andorderly. (10%)Develop specific clinical nurse skills through observation of experts andsupervised, hands-on experience. (10%)Documentation that complies with clinical guidelines. (10%)Partners with interprofessional team on healthcare consumer throughput byproactively solving problems related to capacity and healthcare consumer flow.(10%)Collaborates with interprofessional teams to incorporate Lean principles forquality improvement initiatives. Post High School Diploma or Certificate Program RequiredWork Experience:
less than 1 year Must have successfully completed Med/Surg 1 at time ofapplication with the ability to provide transcript with grade.RequiredLicenses:
