Job Duties
Basic Job Requirements : Extensive pushing or pulling , Frequentstooping or bending over Lifting requirement ___100_____ lbs.Repetitive movements Worker will be required perform a variety of dutiesrelated to the production of bare root and container trees/shrubs,conifers, ball and burlap trees, fruit trees and perennials. Themajority of the work activities during the overall contract period,however, will be related to general far work/irrigation/crop production.Will apply specific horticultural techniques as instructed by theemployer when carrying out the following responsibilities; preparefields/plant/weed and irrigate plants/shrubs/trees; sow seed; observegeneral condition of plants and apply the appropriate care;prune/transplant/pinch plants and cull appropriately to ensuredevelopment of product; harvest/pack and store crop; plant shrubs/plantsin containers; move containerized trees/shrubs; dig/wrap roots ofshrubs/trees and bud grafting. Propagation of nursery plants.Prepare/ship produced crops by: drive, load/unload farm trucks;transport crops to onsite storage facilities and lift/transport rootballs weighing up to 100 pounds; workers possessing the proper licensuremay be asked to transport other farm workers. Irrigation duties willinclude the following: Hand lines: connect pipes; check alignment ofpipe and adjust for proper water distribution; attach lines to watersupply; turn valves to start flow of water; disassemble lines and carrypipes across fields at specified intervals; move pipes through freshlyirrigated crops and/or plowed fields where mud may be deep at times;lift and carry pipe sections weighing approximately 40 pounds on asustained basis. Other Irrigation Duties: observe revolving sprinklersand adjust to ensure proper operation and uniform distribution of water;disassemble, service and store pipes/mainlines after irrigationseason.Applicants must have 20 days experience with nursery/irrigationwork and provide the contact information of at least one reference whocan verify experience and performance. Applicants hired must be able toobtain a valid Drivers License as driving on public roads may berequired. To meet minimum acceptable performance standards whenirrigating, the worker must move, after a 10-day conditioning period, anaverage of at least 48 40-foot sections of 3-inch pipe or 44 40-footsections of 4-inch pipe per hour under normal working conditions.Theworker may be offered work seven days a week, as farm work must beperformed seven days a week. The worker will be required, however, towork the minimum number of hours indicated in Section A / Item 6. Theworker may be offered more than the specified hours per day, but is onlyrequired to work the hours specified. The worker may be requested, butwill not be required, to work on his/her Sabbath and/or on Federalholidays. Instruction, training, and general supervision will beprovided by the farm operator or a designated employee. However, theworker must perform required duties without close supervision and listento, understand, and follow simple instructions of the employer orsupervisor. The worker will be required to return worn out tools,supplies, and equipment before new ones will be provided. Most dutiesare performed out of doors and entail exposure to heat, cold, dust,rain, and other environmental conditions common in fields, includingmosquitoes during certain seasons. The worker must crouch, bend, andlift and carry items weighing up to the number of ounds indicated inSection B/Item 4.e. in the course of performing required activities.
TERMINATION: The employer may terminate the workers employment if theworker: 1) fails to complete or refuses to carry out work as assigned(including unexcused absences from work); 2) fails to work in accordancewith the terms of this clearance order; 3) commits an act of misconduct;4) commits a violation of the laws of the United States, the State, orthe local jurisdiction.Work hours may vary and there may be periods whenlittle or no work will be available due to weather, time of year, andthe requirements of the cropping program.
