The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

  Position Summary

  Clinical Care Coordinator - NP & Quality Officer will work within the division of Pediatric Orthopedics, working closely with the attending physicians on patient care as well as quality control.

  Responsibilities

  Treats patients with pediatric orthopedic related issues and manage inpatient and outpatient services and/or other situations.Work independently or collaboratively with the orthopedic surgery attending and resident staff as a well as the nurses, therapists, social workers and other support personnel who take part in caring for orthopedic surgery patients.Chart preparation according to protocol and orders appropriate x-rays for office hours using the Electronic Medical Record.Evaluates and diagnoses patientsOrders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient's age-specific needs.Administers injections/Prescribes appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment modalities.Monitors effectiveness of prescribed intervention.Remove/apply dressings, sutures, staples, slings and/or bracesReviews pre-operative instructions and explains the surgical process to patients who are about to have surgeryPerforms patient education duties; hands out brochures, and directs patients to specific Internet sites for more informationPrescribe post op pain medication(s) as directedSee post-op patients for wound checks and post-op care and notify attending of findings if abnormalReviews post-operative discharge instructions with patients including regarding wound care and pain management.Triage incoming telephone calls; instructs patient and family regarding treatment instruction, then documents action taken in the Electronic Medical Record.Sends patient telephones prescription requests to pharmacy and documents action in the Electronic Medical Record.Assist with patient correspondence as needed, i.e. forms, letters of medical necessity, school notes, insurance inquiries, etc.Assist patients in meeting health needs by identifying potential or existing problems, exploring available alternatives and providing support to the patient and family members to make an informed decision regarding health care.Facilitates the patient's transition within and between healthcare settings, e.g. admitting, transferring, discharging and home care including visiting nurse referrals.Formulate patient care protocols and critical pathways.Assist with development; participate in design and implementation of clinical research trials.Sees patients independently, performs in depth work up, and refers patients to NYP Hospital surgeons.Serve as a Mentor to new-to-practice NPs and student NPs via the Columbia University School of Nursing program.Daily review of previous day's cases and tabulation of indicators daily, monthly, yearly.Identies trends in indicators and notifies Chair of Quality Assurance (QA).Generates monthly statistics, indicators, including OR and o site.Tracks CLABSI trends in ICU; reports to Department of QA monthlyGenerates monthly QA report to NYPH Department of Quality, which includes monthly data, CLABSI data from SICU and both CTICUs, keepsafes and responses, all eQA reviews, follow up RCA plans of correction, mortalities.Coordinates monthly M&M Departmental QA meetings, distributing preliminary minutes prior to meetings, slides for meeting, nalizing minutes after discussion at meeting.Interfaces with the Quality Assurance department, Patient Services Department, and other departments as neededBenefits include CME reimbursement, association and membership dues, paid holidays, personal days, and generous vacation time.   Minimum Qualifications

  Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experienceMinimum five years of Clinical experience required.New York RN and FNP licensure and DEA (or application).New Jersey RN and FNP licensure and DEA (or application).Preferred Qualifications

  Prior experience in management of pediatric patients with orthopedic diseasesClinical Doctorate preferred.Bilingual (Spanish/English).
