This is a Registered Nurse position whose primary responsibility is theoversight and coordination of daily operations in the EmergencyDepartment with the goal of insuring safe, timely, efficient, andeffective care to patients in this setting. Additional responsibilitiesinclude, collaborating with nursing education to ensure the emergencydepartment specific educational needs of the team are met.
Reports To: VP of Patient Care Services and is a part of the PatientCare Services LeadershipTeam. Works closely with ED Medical Director toensure high quality, timely and appropriate care for patients.
Direct Responsibility and Oversight: Registered Nurses, Paramedics,Patient Observers and Emergency Room Techs.
Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities
Quality
1. Collaborates with medical staff, nursing leadership, nursing staff,and other clinicians to develop, implement, and monitor effectiveness ofevidence-based protocols.
2. Provides leadership by participating in human resources managementprocesses including recruitment, selection, orientation, professionaldevelopment, competency assessment, and annual performance evaluations.
3. Assists with the development and implementation of a performanceimprovement program for areas of responsibility.
4. Reviews staffing patterns, census, and acuity of nursing units toverify staffing is consistent with patient needs. Adjusts such staffingpatterns to meet productivity and benchmarks, based on hospital mission.
Morale and Culture
1. Assists with daily patient care and assists where needed duringtimes of high volume and high acuity as needed.
2. Participates in and promotes staff rounding to address caringpractices, patient and family needs, and discharge planning.
3. Acts as a formal and informal consultant, assisting with change andacting as a change agent to promote caring and evidence-based practices.
4. Promotes an environment that is collaborative and supportive ofstaffs personal and professional growth.
