  HPTC Build Up Archivist Intern

  Position Details

  Stewards Individual Placement Program (SIPP) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health.

  The National Parks Service preserves unimpaired the natural and cultural resources of the National Parks System for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations. The Historic Preservation Training Center is dedicated to the safe preservation and maintenance of national parks by addressing critical deferred maintenance and repairs on priority assets, investing in the future of our parks and connecting and empowering our workforce while advancing equity and inclusion.

  This internship will assist with the preservation of the cultural resources of HPTC which include the creation of park archives as well as the research, documentation and assessment of currently archived materials relating to the history of HPTC and WPTC. This intern will work closely with current and former staff from a diverse field of backgrounds and professions within the NPS/Historic Preservation profession to learn skills from both hands-on preservation work as well as condition assessment and documentation standards.

  Minimum Requirements:

  Ages 18-30 (up to 35 with veteran status documentation)

  Responsibility and time management skills

  Very strong communication skills

  Very strong organizational skills

  Ability to work independently

  Ability to pass a federal background check

  Possess a valid driver’s license

  Currently enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or PhD degree program at an accredited institution of higher education during the summer internship.

  Preferred Qualifications:

  Interest in historic preservation and/or trades preferred

  Strong writing skills

  Experience with databases and professional computer skills. (Special consideration will be given to applicants who have noted experience creating databases and/or archives from scratch)

  Benefits:

  Living Allowance: $640/wk + $200 housing equivalent to $21/hr (pre-tax)

  Direct Hire Authority Eligibility- this position is approved for direct hire post-graduation for interns currently enrolled in an accredited university.

  Segal Education Award $1,956.35
