About NASA Fracture Control Engineer

MRI, a woman-owned Technologies and Engineering Services company, has an exciting opportunity for aFracture Control Engineeron the JETS II Contract with NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX.

  As aFracture Control Engineeryou will:

  Provide expertise in fracture control processes as used in the design, development, test, evaluation and processing of aerospace hardware.Advise on the solution of fracture control related problemsParticipate in technical reviews as required.Participate in the effort of identifying anomalies and serves as a technical expert providing engineering recommendations, as required for resolution of any associated problems or issues.Evaluate compliance of flight hardware against established fracture control requirements.Perform other duties as required.Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.

  BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and ten (10) years of direct engineering experience, or a MS degree from an accredited engineering school and eight (8) years of direct engineering experience, or Ph.D. and four (4) years of direct engineering experience.Extensive knowledge in Fracture Classification and experience, and evidence of NASA Program support in this area.In-depth knowledge of fracture control as it relates to implementation of fracture control requirements on spaceflight hardware, and a good understanding of the risks associated with Fracture Classifications.Understanding of NASA Standards and requirements for fracture control processes and standards.General knowledge of engineering materials as well as a basic understanding of engineering systems and Non-destructiveEvaluation (NDE) techniques.Ability to effectively utilize oral and written communication to express technical concepts and recommendations to personnel at all technical and managerial levels.Ability to work effectively, rationally and quickly in real-time environments of rapid-change, conflicting requirements, and occasional pressure.Preferences:

  Understanding of Failure Analysis.Familiarity with conventional Aerospace metallic materials, and manufacturing processes that create flaws, affect fracture properties.Understanding of Composite Materials.Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency may be a requirement for this position.

  Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.

  Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised.

  Essential Functions

  Work Environment

  Generally an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

  Physical Requirements

  Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 10 lbs. (5% of time).

  Equipment and Machines

  Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

  Attendance

  Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.

  Ot er Essential Functions

  Must be able to work in a team atmosphere. Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.

  As we are a Federal Contractor, most positions require the employee to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government background investigation. MRI also completes a pre-screening background check for anyone offered employment.
