Job Purpose/Summary:
The Packaging Engineer I will be responsible for organizing, planning,managing, and executing packaging Innovation, development and costreduction projects for Retail, Club, Foodservice, and Internationalbusinesses. The Packaging Engineer I will also assist with research,design, testing, justification, and deployment of new package technologyto deliver new or improved packaged products. This individual will workwith project teams to investigate and recommend materials, processes,innovation, packaging, and equipment to bring assigned project tosuccessful conclusion. Additionally, they will provide technical supportto Product Development, Business Units (BU), Supply Chain, andProcurement in technical expertise. The individual in this role willalso support Supply Chain and BU function in manufacturing of packagesthat meet customer and consumer expectation for character, cost, andquality in assigned product category. The Packaging Engineer I willdevelop the ability to manage/recommend projects that will lead toopportunity for innovation, growth, sustainability, intellectualproperty, and profitability.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Support assigned Business Unit with all package development needsManage multiple packaging development, technical application,sustainability, and cost reduction projects and/or programs.Supports problem identification and problem resolution to facilitatenew or improved packages, packaging upgrades, new or improvedprocesses and cost savings.Assists with the development of technological innovation inequipment, materials, processing or package design includingpackaging development specifications.Assists with the development of intellectual property for newpackage platforms / designs when applicableWork as a cross functional resource with Business Units,Insights/Innovation, Supply Chain Engineering, Product DevelopmentR&D, and Procurement to develop new packaging platforms to supportproduct innovationDevelop and maintain excellent working relationships withoperations/divisional management and external customers.Develop partnerships with suppliers to create new and uniquepackaging and processes.Responsible for assuring all projects are seen through to completionincluding documentation and protection of intellectual property.Supports the establishment and execution of departmental prioritiesand program strategy efforts in conjunction with department Directorand/or VP.Develop and maintain excellent working relationships withoperations/divisional management and external customers.Leverages external vendors and works directly with procurement.Provide technical support to project teams to solve manufacturingproblems.Serve as a technical resource to the organization in at least onearea of expertise.Mentor to the interns of the Packaging Department.Develops self and others utilizing the Tyson 5C\'s (collaboration,commitment, creativity, caring, and candor).Other duties as assigned.Requirements:
Education/Certifications: BS/MS Packaging Engineering or relatedfieldExperience: +0 years totalIf Student, in last semester of receiving the degree. Degree must beconferred prior to start datePrevious internship experience with food packaging a plusUnderstanding of product and packaging interactions, sustainability,food protections and packaging testsComputer Skills: Requires basic computer skills. For example,generating simple letters, spreadsheets and creating simple queries.May require knowledge of Tyson Business Computer. Familiarity withCape, Tops, ArtiosCAD, CAD, etc.Communication Skills: Good verbal and written communication skillsrequired. Presentation skills required. Must have the ability toeffectively communicate with cross functional business partnersSpecial Skills: Good critical thinking and problem-solving skills.Good project management skills. Good planning and organizationalskills.Supervisory: Mentor to Interns of the Packaging DepartmentTravel: 25% - 12+ domestic or international trips per year.Relocation Assistance Eligible:
