Job Title: Museum Associate 3
Reports To: Museum Director
The Museum Associate 3 will participate in the overall operation and support of the La Quinta Museum under the direction of the Museum Director and Museum Programming Manager. Duties include participation in the Museum's exhibits and collections, along with event planning & logistics, operation of the Museum store, and outreach support for the Museum's programming and exhibits. The ideal candidate will be adept at supporting Museum activities, exhibits and outreach along with promoting cross over opportunities for the La Quinta Museum and Library communities; also a desire to provide the highest quality customer service.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: An individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. • Assisting patrons and the public with questions, promoting the Museum's programs, doing archival research as needed • Serving as a role model providing quality customer service, feedback and recommendations regarding Museum functions which address the museum needs • Part of this position will also include creating and maintaining social media content on various network sites the Museum is linked to • Providing tours to school age children and public visitors on the local history gallery and cultural themes exhibited at the Museum • Follow all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records • Other duties as assigned
Requirements
Qualifications: An individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education, training and/or work experience required.
• BA/BS Required, preferably in History, Art, Art History or a closely related field
• Multi-lingual speaking considered a plus
• Broad familiarity and experience with customer service, outreach programs, computer systems, and social media networks
• Strong interpersonal skills with both the public and Museum staff • Successful candidate will exhibit effective listening and problem solving skills, along with good planning and organizational skills
• Requires attention to detail, ability to work independently and in a team environment and to think creatively, often within short timeframes
• Candidate will embrace change and have the ability to strategize; relate to individuals of all ages and backgrounds; and assist patrons with flexibility, patience, and respect
Physical Requirements: • Must be able to frequently move from place to place within the location; file and retrieve books and other items on high shelves; lift, push/pull, hold/carry of items weighing up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds. of heavy boxes, books, and equipment; work in confined spaces; walk; bend; stoop; reach; and climb
