  Job Summary

The University of Texas at Arlington ( UTA ) is pleased to announce a cluster hiring initiative in Community Engaged Research. We seek to understand and support the well-being of children and their families in Eastern Tarrant County. Tarrant County is the 3rd most populous county in Texas and the 15th most populous in the country, with more than 2 million people and home to the major cities of Arlington and Fort Worth. Eastern Tarrant County includes a diverse set of neighborhoods and communities, and Arlington is consistently ranked as one of the country’s most culturally and religiously diverse communities.

We seek to listen to the people who live and work in eastern Tarrant County – understanding what matters most to them when it comes to building a healthy future for their families and working in collaboration with communities to provide culturally responsive solutions. We seek scholars from various fields to support families facing various challenges, such as access to housing, education, and substance abuse treatment. UTA’s location in Arlington is ideal for studying and contributing to solutions that support children and families living near our main campus. We are seeking four outstanding tenured and/or tenure-track faculty (open-rank) who are committed to community-engaged research to join our existing faculty.

The ideal candidate will advance learning and knowledge through research, teaching, service, and commercialization in disciplines in our College of Architecture, Planning, and Public Affairs, College of Education, College of Liberal Arts, or School of Social Work.

The new faculty hires will bridge disciplines across the college/school and their departments, stimulating innovative research and teaching efforts. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprised of individuals with a range of backgrounds, skills, and perspectives. We are seeking candidates able to produce research and scholarly or creative achievements that enhance the program and the discipline, and able to deliver high-quality teaching using evidence-based practices to effectively engage students from a range of backgrounds and experiences.

The appointments are expected to commence September 1, 2024, for the start of the Fall 2024 semester.

College of Architecture, Planning, and Public Affairs: All areas of architecture, interior design, landscape architecture planning, and public affairs will be considered, with a particular interest in communities’ readiness for climate change and climate adaptation. Highest consideration will be given to applicants that have a demonstrated record of interdisciplinary research, scholarly achievements, and excellence with clear potential to develop a well-funded research program (or with an established program, for applicants at the Associate Professor or Full Professor level). More information can be found at https://www.uta.edu/academics/schools-colleges/cappa/research.

College of Education: All areas of education will be considered. We are looking for a scholar with expertise in mental health and school counseling, juvenile justice education, family-school-community engagement/partnerships, educational policy and diversity in student homelessness, corrections education, education of incarcerated adults, social contexts of education, and/or culturally responsive pedagogy in alternative and urban school environments. More information can be found at https://www.uta.edu/academics/schools-colleges/education/research.

College of Liberal Arts: All areas of Liberal Arts will be considered, including humanities, social sciences, fine and performing arts. More information on our research strengths can be found at https://www.uta.edu/academics/schools-colleges/liberal-arts/.

School of Social Work: All areas of social work will be considered, with particular interest in families, children, or adolescents, including impacts of substance abuse and homelessness. More information on our research strengths can be found at https://www.uta.edu/academics/schools-colleges/social-work/office-of-research.

We are seeking candidates with expertise in Community Engaged Research, as broadly described above, with a focus on research that spans families and communities, culturally responsive pedagogy in education, substance abuse, homelessness, housing, social mobility, and sustainability.
