As the Carlson School's inaugural multimedia journalist and content strategist, you will build this role from the ground up, shaping and defining the role for maximum impact. Every day, you will seek out and find stories about the people, places, research, and outreach that make us the top business school in the region. You will determine the best way to share these stories (video, audio, photo, etc) and then execute, using the ability to synthesize complex materials and communicate them in an easily understandable manner. The result will be a more engaged and informed community of supporters across the school's stakeholder groups. Working on the award-winning, high-performing Marketing & Communications team, you will inform and engage 400+ faculty and staff, nearly 5,000 students, and 60,000 alumni in 100+ countries via timely, relevant, and meaningful content. This position directly supports communications that are authentic, empathetic, personable, transparent, and instill a sense of belonging among people in our community of all identities. Additional skills we seek include someone who is a proactive communicator, with ability to build relationships across an organization, and is organized, unphased by tight deadlines, able to re-prioritize quickly, and thrives in a fast-paced, flexible environment. This role reports to the director, strategic communications. The salary range for this position is $68,000-$72,000 depending on qualifications. JOB DESCRIPTION Multimedia Content Creation (75%) Be proactive to find interesting story ideas that advance the schools goals, support the content strategy, and/or provide value in a different way. Determine the most compelling way to tell specific stories and execute that, including via quick turn (one day or less) stories. Convey complex subject matter in an engaging and easy-to-understand style by using multimedia tools. Cultivate faculty, staff, students, and other sources for stories and expert commentary. Coordinate with the social media manager to create social-first content and to amplify other created content. Media Relations (15%) Proactively pitch stories, research, expertise and news tips about Carlson to reporters, editors and producers, in coordination with the associate director, strategic communications. Respond to media requests, as needed. Track and report media placements. Assist in researching and maintaining the school's media database. Project Management and Stakeholder Support (10%) Create schedules and timelines for communication vehicles using project management software, then manage to complete on time. Support videographer on shoots, as needed. Support events, as needed, with logistics, planning, and execution. Develop and implement processes to measure the effectiveness of multimedia communications efforts. Other duties as assigned. * The employer reserves the right to change or assign other duties to this position * Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS BA/BS plus at least four years of experience 2 years of relevant professional experience in journalism, video production, audio production, or related fields. If no professional experience, education, internships, and full-or-part time roles must add up to 6 or more years.) Demonstrated experience telling multimedia stories, with ability to shoot, edit, and write concisely and accurately explain complex subjects in a way that makes them interesting, i formative, and understandable to members of the public and to news media personnel. Track record of communicating or working sensitively and effectively across cultures, including historically marginalized/underrepresented communities. Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision, adhering to priorities and meeting deadlines. Ability to work on-site at the Carlson School 2-3 days per week (hybrid work environment). PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience in a news-gathering organization. Prior experience working in a deadline-driven, results-oriented environment with media and public relations professionals and with a wide variety of clients. Strong social media skills. Knowledge of Associated Press style. Familiarity with these tools: Canon camera equipment, Asana, Drupal, Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office Suite, Google applications.
