About Motor Equipment Mechanic III

The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is excited to announce a career growth opportunity to a motivated and talented individual for a Motor Equipment Mechanic III position at the Northeast Region at Hogan Regional Center. The Motor Equipment Mechanic III will perform a wide variety of regular and complicated maintenance, repair and testing work on all motor vehicles and other mechanical equipment to ensure safety and efficiency. Duties and Responsibilities(these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive): * Conduct accurate and thorough inspections to diagnose mechanical issues on motor vehicles and perform automotive repairs. * Inspect, troubleshoot, road test, and repair facility motor vehicles and equipment for use by the Department of Developmental Services Personnel. * Inspect vehicle engine and all other mechanical equipment including mechanical/electrical systems and components to diagnose issues accurately to repair, maintain, and replace parts as needed. * Inspect vehicle computer and electronic systems to repair, maintain and replace as needed. * Inspect steering system components to diagnose issues, accurately repair, maintain, and replace parts as needed. * Inspect tires, repair, and replace, includes mounting and balancing. * Conduct routine maintenance work (replacing fluids, lubricating parts etc.) targeting vehicle safety and functionality. * Repair or replace broken or defective mechanical parts and fix issues. * Inspect Department equipment to diagnose issues accurately to repair, maintain and replace as needed. * Replace damaged body parts, including bumpers fenders, hoods, trim, etc. * Provide accurate estimates of a repair or maintenance job. * Keep logs on work. * Prepare damage reports for the Fleet Administrator, Director of Core Services, and the Office of Vehicle Management when requested. * Maintain equipment and tools in good condition. * Participates in all snow removal activities to ensure safety of all residents and staff. * Orders supplies and parts as needed. * Perform related work as assigned. Preferred Qualifications at hire: * Ability to operate snow removal and sanding vehicles and equipment. * Ability to operate tow vehicles (ramp trucks). * Ability to prep and paint vehicles and equipment. * Ability to multi-task. * Ability to handle various tools. * Knowledge of safety practices and procedures followed in automotive and other mechanical engine repair. * Skill in using equipment needed to repair and maintain vehicles. * Ability to work independently. * Ability to lift heavy objects. * Ability to work with various machines and tools as well as follow all safety precautions. * Ability to follow established procedures, practices, read and comprehend instructions. ALL EMPLOYEES ARE PAID ON A BI-WEEKLY BASIS AND MUST HAVE DIRECT DEPOSIT.Listed salary ranges are for one full year at current rates. Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least (A) three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in the repair, maintenance and overhaul of automotive equipment such as automobiles, trucks, bulldozers, cranes, front end loaders, etc. of which (B) at least one year must have been in a supervisory capacity, or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below. Substitutions: I. A certificate or diploma from a recognized trade, technical or vocational school, at the high school level or above, with a major in automotive shop practice may be substitution for one year of the required (A) experience. Special Requirements: Based on assignment: 1. Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class B Motor Vehicle Operator's License. 2.
