About Mine Safety and Health Assistant (OA)

  Summary The incumbent of this position provides program and administrative support, as well as liaison duties in direct support of the supervisor and a cadre of Mine Safety and Health Inspectors. This position is inside the bargaining unit. Responsibilities Makes travel arrangements for employees of the work unit. Provides itinerary, secures travel and hotel reservations, and prepares travel vouchers upon completion of travel.Performs a variety of administrative functions, such as: posts and maintains time and attendance records, distributes supplies, prepares mileage reports, tracks awards, etc. Researches, gathers and assembles information for use by field office staff in special projects, evaluations, conferences, meetings and FOIA requests. Maintains records systems for the work unit in support of Division operations. Tracks citations and orders for assessment purposes to ensure submission to the District Office within established time frames. Receives calls and visitors. Ascertains the nature of the call/visit and determines those which she or he can personally handle or referring others to the appropriate staff. Receives, reviews and distributes incoming correspondence. Responds to those which do not require the attention of the supervisor or staff. Reviews outgoing correspondence for compliance with policy, procedure, format, grammar, punctuation, etc. Records and tracks mine plan approval processing. Prepares plan approval and rejection letters. Uploads and downloads daily inspection activities. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications To qualify for this position, your application and resume must clearly show that you possess the experience and/or education requirements as defined below. If qualifying based on experience, be sure these types of examples are evident in your resume. For the GS-06 Grade Level: Applicants must have 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-05, in the Federal Service. Specialized experience must include at least two of the following: Review or proofread documents for conformance, format, or grammatical accuracy. Maintain and/or create records and files. Prepare documents, correspondence or reports using computer software programs. Communicate with customers through a variety of contact methods, e.g., email, telephone, in-person, web form inquiries. Assist with office support tasks such as maintaining a calendar and scheduling appointments, coordinating travel, or managing time and attendance. Assist with coordinating meetings, trainings, or seminars. This experience may have been gained either in the Federal or private sectors. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. In addition to the above, required proficiency for Office Automation (OA): You must have a typing proficiency of 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors. You must have a certificate of proficiency from an organization authorized to issue such certificates or self-certify your proficiency. Education There is no substitution of education at the GS-06 grade level. Additional Information Applicants must meet all legal and regulatory requirements. If the duty location is within the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, the position will be included in the Local 12, AFGE bargaining unit. If the duty location is outside the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, the position will be included in the NCFLL bargaining unit.
