Taunton State Hospital is seeking experienced candidates for our Mental Health Worker III positions to assist professional staff in providing care and treatment for mentally ill clients including psychogeriatric, intermediate care, acute care, and all other specialized care psychiatric units. This will include instruction and supervision of patients regarding skills achieved through effective ADL’s. Provides supervision and direction to MHW's as assigned. Please Note/: /These positions are 40 hours per week. The following schedules are available with alternating weekends: * Second shift (2:45 p.m. to 11:15 p.m.): Week 1 - Sunday/Friday off; Week 2 -Monday/Saturday off * Second shift(2:45 p.m. to 11:15 p.m.): Week 1 Tuesday/Saturday off; Week 2-Sunday/Friday off * Third shift (11 p.m. to 7 a.m.): Week 1 - Tuesday/Saturday off; Week 2 - Sunday/Friday off __ _Duties and Responsibilities (these duties and responsibilities are not all inclusive):_ * Provides direct care services daily while instructing and assisting clients in learning the skills of daily living to promote independent ADL functioning. * Provides care to the patients with respect to their needs as defined by the specific age population. Assist in problem identification, planning and teaching. * Counsels' patients as indicated by conversing with them on a 1-1 basis using therapeutic communication to facilitate a therapeutic environment. * Accompanies patients to various appointments, programs, and treatment areas and assists professional or medical staff as needed. * Participates in activities with patients to include board games, puzzles, ping pong, to provide the patient with opportunities to reduce their “down” time. * In the absence of a higher grade MHW, makes out daily ward assignment shift after consulting the charge nurse. Assignment is made with consideration to acuity, patient and staff safety, and patient needs. * Responds to off unit behavioral emergencies as assigned. * Provides a safe unit environment by accurately performing patient safety checks, accurately signing patients on and off the unit. * Completes required documentation as assigned, accurately reflecting the patient’s presentation. * Demonstrates knowledge of R&S reduction principles including prevention, de-escalation, and debriefing. _Preferred Qualifications:_ * Given the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluency. _About Taunton State Hospital_ Taunton State Hospital (TSH) operated by the Department of Mental Health (DMH) is a 45-bed inpatient facility that provides continuing care inpatient services to adults with major mental illnesses.
