Analyzes information, monitors quality performanceand takes action to ensure the efficient delivery of accurate and timelylaboratory test results and services. Understands the requirements andstandards of regulating agencies and ensures compliance within thelaboratory. Delegates and provides clinical laboratory expertise forMedical Technicians and support staff within the laboratory and providestechnical expertise in a manner that promotes collaboration withinternal and external customers. Actively seeks education opportunitiesto learn and stay current in information relevant to the section(s) andparticipates in initiatives to advance department strategic goals andkey operating strategies for the organization. Collects blood frompatients and performs EKG\'s following the prescribed procedures. MajorResponsibilities: 1. Responsible for achieving and maintainingcompetence in performing automated and non-automated laboratory testingas demonstrated by departmental skills rosters. Recognizes unexpectedtest results, troubleshoots to determine cause and takes correctiveaction to resolve technical, instrument, pre-analytical andpost-analytical problems. 2. Plans and prioritizes workload demands;works as a team to best ensure the laboratory delivers high qualitylaboratory test results in accurate and timely manner. 3. Assists withprocessing and collection of specimens by clinically acceptable meansincluding phlebotomy and capillary draws, and point of care. 4. MonitorsQuality Control, Quality Assurance and variance reporting are withinacceptable performance standards. Evaluates, compares and interpretsambiguous and changing data, distinguishes clinically significant shiftsand trends and makes decisions on most appropriate corrective action toresolve technical, instrument, pre-analytical and post-analyticalproblems. 5. Understands the flow of laboratory data and information vialaboratory information system and electronic health records. Understandsthe systems and the needs of the external customers; plansappropriately, and provides guidance for others during times of failureto ensure laboratory data continues to be delivered in an accurate andtimely manner. 6. Participates as a member of a team to select, validateand implement new test methodologies/instrumentation.
