JOB SUMMARY

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Actively participates in maintaining and/or improving quality improvement initiatives and Meaningful Use guidelines
Maintain high level of competence of accurate documentation in the electronic medical recordTakes active role in facilitating team approach to functions within the department:
Attends departmental meetings.
Actively participates as a team member in resolution of problems as they are identified.
Analyzes current procedures, bringing suggestions for improvement to the attention of team members and supervisor for consideration.
Open and close office as required.
Maintains appropriate supplies and supply quantity in each exam room. Order additional supplies through appropriate channel
Accurately processes laboratory specimens while maintaining the integrity of the specimen
Cleans and autoclaves contaminated instruments and other supplies.
Takes and records accurate vital signs with all patients
Ascertains patient chief complaint; record/reconcile drugs, allergies, medical/surgical history and present medications
Prepares injections and performs suture removal under sterile conditions
Assist with minor surgical procedures and medication injections, prepares equipment for doctor, and applies casts, splints and DME devices
Assist with appointment scheduling; ER follow up appointments; complete all tasks sent electronically to the clinical team; referral tracking; process prescription refills in a timely manner and within scope of practice and obtains pre-authorizations for injectable medications.
Accurately enter in-office radiology orders, communicate effectively with technician
Acts as a liaison between the physician and patient in regard to clinical instruction
Disposes of Bio-Hazardous waste and regular waste.
Accurately enters charges into the patient record
Accurately completes charge slip to include nurse related charges and diagnosis.
Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/ Entity as well as the
proper release of information.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
Assists "front staff" and phone team as needed.
Attends educational training and inservices as required.
Other related duties as assigned.PHYSICIAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Requires sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time (up to 8 hours at a time). Continually uses fingers for patient care, writing and handling patient charts. Routinely uses upper extremities; occasionally lift items up to 25 pounds. Occasionally push cart with supplies up to 30 pounds. Occasionally push wheelchair with patient weighing up to 325 pounds.
Stoop, bend and reach above shoulder level regularly. Hearing as it relates to normal conversation and taking blood pressure readings. General vision, near vision, peripheral is all required.
POTENTIAL ON-THE-JOB RISKS:
Exposure to infectious disease due to continual patient contact.
MOST COMPLEX DUTY:
Assisting with procedures, handling changing responsibilities and priorities between back and front office.
SUPERVISION (RECEIVED BY AND/OR GIVEN TO):
Receives direct supervision from the Clinical Coordinator and Practice Administrator with additional supervision from the office physicians.
COMMUNICATIONS:
Interfaces with employers, patients, visitors and members of the health care team.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Demonstrates mature, conscientious and professional behavior. Accepts responsibility and follows directions.
QUALIFICATIONS
(MINIMUM)
EDUCATION:
Graduate of Medical Assistant program or equivalent
Two years experience preferred
Certification within one year of hire
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
BLS/CPR Certification required through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.

Must have a valid Pennsylvania Drivers License
Flexible to travel to all Orthopaedic Practice locations
