  Job Description:A Medical assistant has accountability for providing care topatients in an ambulatory clinic setting. This will involve caring forpatients with acute and chronic needs

  Scope

  1.Performs general administrative and patient care tasks in accordance withthe Intermountain Health MGPSMA Scope of Practice, and other establishedpolicies and procedures.2. Possesses the ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically withina multi- disciplinary care team.3. Greets and prepare patients for the health care provider while maintaininga positive and caring attitude.4. Attentive to patient's needs, coordinates care, administers care,and documents appropriately.5. Provides for patient safety and protection of patient privacy rights byobserving HIPAA regulations6. Obtains and record patient information; vital signs, height,weight, allergies, current medications, medical history, and chiefcomplaint, e7. Demonstrates knowledge of examination, diagnostic and treatment roomprocedures.8. May be required to draw and collect blood samples and prepare specimens forlaboratory analysis.9. Per Provider request, may perform routine tests including but not limitedto EKGs, hearing and vision screens.10. Schedules patients for diagnostic testing and follow up as appropriate toensure completion of testing.11. Communicates test results to patients and establish plan of care by phoneor mail as directed by the Provider.12. Documents patient plan(s) of care, tests and examination results inthe medical record as directed by the provider.13. Prepares, clean and sterilize instruments and maintain equipment;stock patient exam rooms while maintaining cleanliness and organization anddispose of contaminated items according to protocol.14. Administers ordered medications and/or vaccines via oral, injection,topical, rectal, ophthalmic, and/or inhalant administration.15. Escalates non-routine issues, questions and/or concerns to thepractice manager and/or healthcare provider(s).16. Ensures safety checklists/quality controls are completed as required.17. Demonstrates sound judgment and composure with the ability to takeappropriate action in questionable or emergency situations.18. Promotes mission, vision, and values of Intermountain Health, andabides by service behavior standards.

  Minimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent is required.Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program and/or be a certifiedMedical Assistant.Current BLS Certification is required upon hire.Three (3) months previous experience within a healthcare setting is required.

  PreferredOne (1) year Medical Assistant experience.Successful completion of an Accredited National Certification Exam forCertified Medical Assistants (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant(RMA) is preferred

  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform eachessential duty satisfactorily. Regular attendance to perform work on site during regularly scheduledbusiness hours or scheduled shifts is required.2. Able to understand and apply information, policies, procedures andskills required by the position.3. Possess knowledge of the meaning and use of medical terminology andabbreviations.4. Knowledge of medical practice and care to assist in providing safe,quality patient care.5. Knowledge of examination, diagnostic and treatment procedures as well asmedical equipment and instruments used in administering patient care.6. Proficiency utilizing various computer software programs, ie: MicrosoftOffice Suite, Electronic Health Records, as well as the ability to learnapplications rel vant to the position.

  Physical Requirements:Ongoing need for employee to see and readinformation, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identifyequipment and supplies.- and -Frequent interactions with patient careproviders, patients, and visitors that require employee to verballycommunicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms,needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergencysituations.- and -Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complexand delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequentcomputer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing neededinformation, medication preparation, etc.- and -Expected to lift andutilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend toretrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes itemsof varying weights, up to and including heavy items.- and -Need to walk andassist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributingsupplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portableequipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded andbusy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).- and-May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period ofti
