Scope
As a Lead Medical Assistant, you need to know how to:Direct and guide back office staff in providing patient care procedures andservices.Monitor and expedite workflow; assist in identifying and providing guidancein resolving procedure and service issues.Obtain and record vital signs and other appropriate information, such asheight, weight, drug allergies, current medications and presenting problems.May draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens forlaboratory analysis.Administer ordered medications via, oral, topical, rectal, optic,ophthalmic, and/or inhaled.Administer vaccines via oral, topically, by injection, and/or nasaladministration.Schedule patients for diagnostic testing and follow up to ensure completion oftesting.Prepare, clean and sterilize instruments and maintain equipment; keeppatient exam rooms clean and orderly; dispose of contaminated itemsaccording to protocol.Communicate with patient regarding test results and plan of care by phone ormail as directed by physician.Formulate and document patient care plans, charts, tests and examinationresults in the medical record.Handle medical supply inventory, orders, and cost control.Escalate non-routine issues to the practice manager or physician.Step in to provide care and assessments based on the clinic scope of yourlicense.May be asked to provide input into employee performance appraisals;interviewing new staff and providing orientation and instruction..Minimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent is required.Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program and/or be a certifiedMedical Assistant.
Current BLS Certification is required upon hire or within 60 days of hire uponapprovalThree (3) months previous experience within a healthcare setting is required.
Physical Requirements:Ongoing need for employee to see and readinformation, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identifyequipment and supplies.- and -Frequent interactions with patient careproviders, patients, and visitors that require employee to verballycommunicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms,needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergencysituations.- and -Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complexand delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequentcomputer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing neededinformation, medication preparation, etc.- and -Expected to lift andutilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend toretrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes itemsof varying weights, up to and including heavy items.- and -Need to walk andassist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributingsupplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portableequipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded andbusy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).- and-May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period ofti
