The Medical Assistant Lead is a seasoned multiskilled health professional responsible for performing administrative and clinical tasks while delivering outstanding customer service and maintaining positive patient engagement. Provides direction to other medical assistants and may function as an informal team leader in a small center or be utilized as a Float to work at multiple centers in the region based on need.
Is considered a subject matter expert (SME) and activities and problem solving performed are complex in nature, including the handling of escalated patient issues and complaints, as necessary. Has independent discretion to interpret policies, procedures, practices, and protocols within scope when required or necessary. Requires minimum administrative supervision and maintains established quality control standards. May have ownership of one or more center tasks (e.g., medical supply inventory, supply ordering, immunization program information)
The Medical Assistant Lead works closely with providers under their direct supervision to: manage the provider's schedule to ensure efficient workflow, perform pre-visit planning based on patient visit type, room patients. Gathers and enters patient information into electronic medical records and identifies and carries our HEDIS and STARS quality measures. Takes vital signs, administers medication, performs diagnostic tests, collects specimens including phlebotomy, and maintains equipment and patient care areas.
Provides direction and guidance to other medical assistants to help drive quality patient care and outcomes and increase positive patient engagement. Working under limited administrative guidance due to previous experience/breadth and depth of knowledge, regularly exercises discretion and judgment in prioritizing administrative requests and interpreting and adapting procedures, processes, practices, and protocols. Embraces, participates in, and provides recommendations in operational administrative processes, initiatives, and improvement activities. May help with facilitating the skills development of lower-level medical assistants and collaborates with center and clinical leadership to provide effective feedback in the overall assessment and performance of medical assistants. May lead and participate in departmental special projects.

Additional Information
Required Qualifications
Medical Assistant diploma or certificate of completion from a Medical Assisting school or program
CPR certification
At least 3 years medical assistant direct patient care experience, including experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems
Hands-on professional Phlebotomy experience
Primary managed care experience including knowledge of HEDIS and ICD/CPT coding
Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from one of the following organizations: American Allied Health (AAH), American Association of Medical Assistant (AAMA), American Medical Technologist (AMT), American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA), Medical Career Assessments (MedCA), National Healthcareer Association (NHA), National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), National Association of Healthcare Technicians (NAHT), and/or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
Preferred Qualifications
May have additional certifications (Phlebotomy, EMT, Paramedic, etc.)This role is considered a patient facing role and is part of Humana's Tuberculosis (TB) screening program. If selected for this role, you will be required to be screened for TB.

Medical Assistant Lead Working hours:
Scheduled 40 hours per week
Monday to Friday 8AM-5PM
Local travel may be required; Mileage is reimbursed
