Summary
Responsible for the self-pay process of patient accounts. Responds to inquiries from patients/customers and insurance companies. Responsible for various other functions related to processing patient accounts.

Responsible for the self-pay process of patient accounts.*
Interfaces with patients, staff, insurance providers, and county social services and vendors to meet the needs of the patient.
Responsible for working with Mille Lacs Health System's (MLHS) patients/customers to educates regarding qualification for any financial assistance through the government (federal, state for county) and/or MLHS financial assistance program, and following MLHS Policies.*
Responsible to obtain and maintain their MNSure and Hospital Presumptive Eligibility (HPE) Certifications. Uses these criteria to see if patients/customers qualify for either of these programs.*
Completes manual or online documentation to support program requirements.
Responsible for the collection process to include accepting payment for services, following MLHS Policies.*
Responsible for setting up past due accounts to transfer to a bad debt agency - following MLHS Policies.*
Informs manager of any billing, self-pay issues.*
Works closely with Billing Specialist and other MLHS departments to ensure accurate demographic and insurance information is obtained allowing for complete and timely billing.*
Assures credit balance owed to government, patient, or another payer are promptly identified, correctly reported, and promptly repaid.*
Ensures accuracy of patient's self-balances. *
Attends educational opportunities to improve knowledge of billing.*

Required Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED required.
2-3 years of healthcare experience that includes registration is required.
Proficient computer skills.
Preferred Education and Experience
Billing knowledge and experience, medical billing or insurance company experience preferred.
Familiarity with procedures and regulations regarding submission and resubmission of claims is preferred.
