　　The Role

　　This position is intended for the mechanical systems analysis group in Department E11. The incumbent will be responsible for performing analysis work in support of mechanical systems design for the next fast attack submarine (SSN(X)). This position requires technical letter writing, calculation package development, and design reviews.

　　Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.

　　Must Have

　　Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience;

　　Master’s Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience;

　　Ph.D. and 4 years of experience.

　　Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

　　Nice to Have

　　A candidate with experience in pipe stress analysis is highly desired. Other analysis work concerning piping system design is also preferred. This includes heat balance, streamline flow analysis, computational fluid dynamics, and finite element analysis. It is also preferred that the candidate exhibit a proficiency in technical writing and technical calculation submittal development. Academic/University experience is helpful.
