What Do We Do?
Business Unit: (Hot Strip Mill)
We are a hot rolling facility of specialty alloys for various applications such as aerospace, automotive, industrial, medical, energy and consumer.
We are responsible for producing Hot Band off of the Hot Steckel Mill for Carpenter Technology's Strip business segment. We monitor and maintain the production line through total production management and engineering improvements. There are 7 production employees, 4 Maintenance Technicians, 1 Process engineer and 1 Metallurgist who oversee the day-to-day tasks.
Your Role as an Intern
You will be a part of a dynamic team, supporting the following tasks:
Mechanical design and improvements. For example, creating a lifting beam rack, redesign the Steckel furnace guide plate to reduce quality issues, investigate feasibility adding a production cell design for the furnace area, redesign entry and exit tables of the hot strip mill to reduce hot band getting caught.
Review and upload commissioning drawings to an in-house database.
Review a Vendor designed RCM system or IBA system and create new custom monitoring features to address emerging quality or Maintenance needs.

What Do We Require?
You must be:
Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program majoring inMechanical Engineering or Electro-Mechanical Engineering
Interns must have experience with auto cad, solid works or related programs
Minimum 3.0 GPA
Willing and able to work on-site at our Reading, PA location.
US Citizen or US Green Card Holder.
Pay Range
Hourly rates are based on: 1 - Program of study; 2 - Degree type (i.e., Bachelor's, Master's); 3 - Progression in degree (i.e., 1st year, 2nd year, etc.). The range for this position is $19-$23 per hour.
Commuting/Housing Assistance (If Eligible)
Interns who must commute to work from outside the immediate Reading, PA area (over 50 miles one-way), will be paid a one-time lump sum payment of $2,400 (less applicable taxes) as excessive commute allowance. Interns who choose to temporarily relocate from outside the immediate Reading, PA area (moving over 50 miles one-way), will be paid a one-time lump sum payment of $4,800 (less applicable taxes) as a housing allowance. If applicable, this payment would be made during the first payroll cycle, which would be three or four weeks following the internship start date.
