  is seeking an exceptional entry-level Mechanical Engineering Associate to join our Heavy Movable Structures team in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.WJE is a global firm of engineers, architects, and materials scientists committed to helping solve, repair, and avoid problems in the built world since 1956. In 2019, Stafford Bandlow Engineering (SBE) officially joined WJE, bringing more than 150 years of combined experience consulting on all aspects of heavy movable structures.At WJE, we spend almost as much time in the field, up close and personal with our projects, as we do in the office. As a Mechanical Engineering Associate, you will apply theoretical knowledge to practical applications primarily related to the machinery for heavy movable structures, including movable bridges, locks and dams, ferry terminals, and cranes.As a Mechanical Engineering Associate, you will not only have the opportunity to learn from and grow alongside industry experts, but you will also be an integral part of building WJE's emerging Heavy Movable Structures practice.Responsibilities:Assume responsibility for key aspects of projects and complete assignments under the guidance of licensed professionalsPerform on-site investigations, condition assessments, and construction observations, which may include surveying, documenting distress, field testing, collecting data and samples, and preparing site visit reportsPrepare instrumentation and conduct field testing using various gauges and sensorsAnalyze field data and perform research to facilitate problem-solving and repair designPerform calculations for counterweight balancing and analysis of new and existing machinery partsAssist with drafting and preparation of client deliverables, including construction documents, specifications, and written reportsQualifications:Bachelor's degree or better in mechanical engineering, engineering sciences, or a related field, from an accredited programOne to two years of internships and other related work experienceStrong technical, written, and verbal communication skillsPractical software knowledge of MathCAD, AutoCAD, FEA, and the full Microsoft Office SuiteSolid foundation in mechanics, dynamics, kinematics, and machine designEnthusiasm and curiosity for solving problems and understanding how things workAbility to work in the field, both locally and outside the local area, including CanadaValid driver's license and authorized passport without travel restrictionsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position requires visual acuity and listening ability. Individuals must have the dexterity to be able to operate office and field equipment such as computer, printer, fax, copier, telephone, voice mail system, and other office and field equipment. Requirements may also include:Ability to attend meetings at the various office, field, and construction sitesAbility to perform inspections of buildings and other structures, both visually and with instrumentsAbility to lift and carry materials and equipment up to 50 lbs.Ability to perform work in the temperature extremes presented by work in the outdoorsAbility to read construction drawings, diagrams, printed materials, and computer screensAbility to record data clearly and write passages for reports, letters, etc.Ability to travelAbility to safely work at heightsAbility to safely work in confined spaces, including permit-required confined spacesAbility to safely use and/or operate ladders, scaffolds, lifts, and other access equipmentAbility to understand and appreciate safety training specific to numerous workplace and construction hazardsAbility to safely work in a variety of occupationally hazardous locationsMedically fit to utilize respiratory protection devices and other form of Personal Protective EquipmentAbility to drive and safely operate a motor vehicleAnnual starting base salary (gross): $63,300 - $96,900. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on several factors including consideration for a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. Base salary is one component of our total compensation package for employees.
