  Description of Work Unit

  This unit exists to assist in the management of the surplus and disposition of all property that the University no longer has a use for; to provide an opportunity for the reutilization of items from one area of the University to other areas that have a need for them, and to provide an outlet for storefront sales, auctions, or recycling of items that no longer have a market value.

  Position Summary

  The purpose of this position is to support all areas of the Surplus Property Department. This position will assist in picking up and processing for sale or recycling University excess property, testing of technology items and data sanitization, providing customer services, social media engagement, operating a point-of-sale system, and creating online sales postings.

  Minimum Qualifications

  To be considered for this position, candidates must demonstrate in the application:

  2 years of related work experience which must have included some of the following: Warehousing, logistics, online sales, front end customer service, internal sales, social media, electronics repair, and/or electronics refurbishment.Substitutions

  The following may substitute for the minimum qualifications of this position:

  College or university coursework in marketing, business, computer science or a directly related field may substitute for up to one year of the required experience. (30 credits = 1 year)*Note: To qualify for this substitution, unofficial or official transcripts must be attached to the application.Preferred Qualifications

  The highly desired candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, abilities, personal characteristics, and experience directly related and critical to this position:

  Proficient with MS Office, specifically Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.

  Demonstrated ability to communicate concisely over the phone, in person, and written.

  Previous professional experience in processing, recycling, or selling used goods.

  Detail oriented with the ability to move between multiple tasks and pick up where tasks were left.

  Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and train others in a team environment.

  Job Duty CategoryWarehousing and Pickups

  Duty/Responsibility

  Assists in the daily scheduling of surplus pickups and deliveries based on available staffing, department requests, and available equipment. Operates a box truck (no CDL required) to pick up and deliver surplus requests from University departments. Processes all inbound items to determine the best disposition method based on salability and functionality, recycle content, or disposal. Assesses fair market value for resale, highest recovery rate for recycling, and best practices for disposal. Maintains the retail environment in all sales areas to ensure all items are priced and accessible to customers. Provides product assistance to customers and load out assistance of larger items. Regularly uses material handling equipment such as a forklift, pallet jack, and dollies. Assists in the training of new and existing student employees, task assignment, and oversight of their work product.

  Duty/Responsibility

  Assists in the identification of high value or unique items being processed that would have a better value recovery being sold through an online auction venue than in store. Researches, inspects, photographs, and completes a detailed write up for each auction item. Goes to department locations across Fort Collins or outlying campus locations to complete auction information for items that cannot or should not be moved to our location. Utilizes our contracted online auction service to post available items for sale, assists buyers with answering questions related to the auctions, assists in resolving customer concerns, provides shipping quotes and assistance, and oversees paperwork associated with the auctions. Assists in the training of new and existing student employees, task assignment, and oversight of their work product.

  Processes and tests IT equipment and unique electronics with existing protocols and equipment on hand. Ensures all data containing devices are properly wiped and if wiping cannot be completed, those data containing devices are properly destroyed prior to recycling. De-manufacturing equipment for the purpose of recycling to capture the most value possible. Assesses fair market value for the resale of functional equipment and auxiliary parts. Collaborates with team to determine cutoff parameters based on the age or specifications of specific equipment that no longer holds a viable resale value or use. Assists customers with pre-purchase testing, answering technical and non-technical questions, and parts upgrades. Maintains the retail environment in all sales areas to ensure all items are priced and accessible to customers. Assists in the training of new and existing student employees, task assignment, and oversight of their work product.

  Operates a point-of-sale system in a retail environment for both in-person transactions and over-the-phone transactions. Assists in the opening and closing of the point-of-sale system and the store. Creates social media and video engagement posts on multiple platforms. Provides direct customer service in person, over the phone, and through email correspondence. Maintains the retail environment in all sales areas to ensure all items are priced and accessible to customers. Assists in the training of new and existing student employees, task assignment, and oversight of their work product.

  Assists in the inventory management of capital assets that are transferred into the Surplus department inventory. Ensures the tracking of inbound assets, location of assets, disposition of assets, and the annual audit inventory of assets that are in the Surplus inventory. Acts as the Department Property Contact ( DPC ) with the Property Management Department.

  Duty/Responsibility

  Acts as the liaison between the Surplus Property department and other departments that fall under the Departments of Central Receiving. Will be a point of contact for information gathering and relaying between Surplus Property and Central Receiving, Shipping, Mail Distribution and Production, Administrative staff, and Auxiliary Services. Will create and provide reporting as needed or requested for metrics gathering or for billing needs that route from Surplus Property to other areas of the Departments of Central Receiving.
