POSITION SUMMARY:
The Manufacturing Engineer for New Product Introductions (NPI) reviews designs for manufacturability, cost, and quality for new F5 PCB designs (fabricated parts or PCAs). Will interact with the CAD team, Product Development engineers, contract manufacturers, and suppliers to optimize designs and provide assembly documentation and BOM structure. Technical support will be provided to the supply base (contract manufacturers, fabricators) for technical issues. There will also be various sustaining engineering-related projects as required. Other duties will be assigned based on skill level.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Write deviations as required for modified assembly or fab requirements.Review designs for DFx, from concept to final releaseReview BOM structures and recommend any enhancements.Assist in product packaging testing as required.Work with Contract manufacturers (CM) and fab partners to optimize new designs.Track DFM input to ensure that recommended changes get dispositioned.Monitor product yields to see if any DFM violations caused issues.Track DFM issues to categorize the types of findings and ensure that we do not see continuously repeated issues.May be on-site at suppliers for 1st proto builds, analyzing the processes and subsequent yield data. Work with suppliers and engineering to implement design enhancements.Provide postmortem feedback on the product development life cycle.Work on documenting best-known practices.Assist in new supplier selection process as required.Work on sustaining engineering projects as required.Domestic and international travel may be required.Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A minimum of 2 years experience in high-tech manufacturing related to PCB fabrication, PCA, electro-mechanical assembly, and fabricated part fabrication and assembly is preferred.Previous experience in working with a Contract Manufacturer is desired.Knowledge of Design for Manufacturability, using software and CAD toolsKnowledge of PCB, metal, and plastic fabrication and assembly processes.BS degree or equivalent with a manufacturing engineering background.The candidate must have the desire and ability to take ownership and responsibility with some coaching from the Sr. Mfg engineers.The candidate should be familiar with basic reliability concepts and be skilled in using analytical tools to provide various metrics, to predict trends, and provide quality feedback to CM.Experience with BOM and ECO tools, processesGood negotiation and conflict management skills.Ability to write technical reports for both internal and external stakeholders.Good verbal and written communication skills using Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Teams, Sharepoint).Familiarity with IPC or equivalent quality standards for fab and assembly
