Position Summary
The position supports the overall operations of the MSM Financial Aid Office by providing excellent customer service to all students in all programs in the area of Debt Management and financial planning. The Manager advises prospective, enrolled, and graduate students on all aspects of financial aid; including financial default prevention, responsible borrowing, loan repayment options, and budgeting practices.
The employee must be able to comprehend, interpret, and apply federal, state regulations and institutional policies related to financial aid, and be able to regularly exercise professional judgement. Due to the nature of the work required for this position, the employee will be expected to work a schedule, necessary to accomplish the tasks, goals, and objectives of the department, including overtime, weekend assignments, and/or travel. Schedule will be defined by the supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degreeExperience:
Prior financial aid experience
Prior debt management and default prevention experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Education:
Master’s degree preferred.Experience:
SunGard Banner software experience preferred
Previous experience with electronic loan processing and SCT Banner.
Strong counseling skills to advise graduate and professional students on large loan portfolios.

Counsel students regarding consequences of excessive borrowing.
Educate students so they are able to understand and take charge of their finances.
Assist enrolled students in resolving defaulted student loans reported on the FAFSA within the school year.
Counseling students regarding their eligibility for federal and private funds, including loan limits.
Help avert student loan defaults by providing counseling, support and resolution options to student borrowers consistent with federal requirements and default management procedures.
Provide data and statistics regarding student loan indebtedness. Construct Debt Management Financial Planning process to reduce cohort default rate.
Communicate with defaulted graduates (and individuals who did not complete the program) providing assistance in reversing defaulted status.
Conduct mandatory individual counseling sessions to discuss changes in student’s awards from year to year overall loan indebtedness, and academic status as it relates to loss of financial aid eligibility.
Complete quarterly debt management reports.
Develop and conduct effective Debt Management and Financial Literacy Workshops to include outside debt counselors, financial planners, etc.
Work with Program Directors to incorporate Financial Literacy in the curriculum for all programs.
Regularly monitor student fees and NSLDS records for over awards, compliance regarding annual, and aggregate loan limits.
Create and maintain dash board(s) data on loan indebtedness for students in all programs.
Develop innovative solutions to engage students in annual debt counseling sessions.
Develop debt management tools students may utilize e to keep track of loan debt.
Maintain and update the electronic loan portfolio data for students during their entire enrollment at MSM .
Manage and Coordinate with Debt Counselor all entrance and exit counseling sessions and orientation presentations; All sessions must have documentation regarding the number of participants and information provided.
Provide relevant information for completion of Bloomberg reports.
Additional duties as assigned by the Director of Financial Aid.

It is MSM’s Immunization policy that all Prospective Employees are required to provide proof that they are vaccinated against COVID -19 prior to commencement of employment. If employment will commence during Flu Season, MSM requires all individuals to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless granted an exemption. Failure to provide proof of vaccination for any required vaccines or obtain an exemption from MSM will result in rescission of a candidate’s offer of employment or disciplinary action up to and including termination.
