Summary of Position (Job Purpose) - Major purpose and functions of the position.
The Manager, Regulatory Compliance will work to develop and implement comprehensive regulatory compliance policies and procedures for both Dollar Tree and Family Dollar Stores and Distribution Centers nationwide. The individual will directly communicate with regulatory inspectors and regulators regarding compliance and required abatement. This role will focus on identifying and analyzing trends to ensure the company’s compliance strategies are mitigating risks, comprehensively, and effectively.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities - Primary responsibilities listed in order of importance
Review, follow-up, track and provide agencies certification of abatement for deficiencies found in all regulatory compliance-related inspections.
Accountable for the timely response to all regulatory compliance-related inspections.
Partner with internal groups such as store operations and property management to address and resolve issues.
Guide stores and distribution centers to ensure compliance with established regulatory compliance policies and procedures.
Work with all levels of management to develop and implement long-term compliance strategies.
Maintain a database of components required for comprehensive regulatory compliance tracking and reporting.
Provide regular reporting to Operations (DT/FD) of all inspection activity, penalties, savings, and trending concerns.
Develop a regular executive summary outlining overall compliance risk to the Enterprise.
Leverage current field structure to conduct comprehensive audits of stores and distribution centers within area(s) of geographic responsibility. Improve communication regarding trends and opportunities for a consistent message across the Enterprise.
Review and update all applicable position information (job descriptions, task lists, audit forms, and weekly updates) to include all components related to current and future risks and to reflect dual banner responsibilities based on regulatory change.
Develop regulatory compliance support structure with clear expectations by position with task-related SOPs to improve the regulatory compliance function within Dollar Tree / Family Dollar.
Develop and implement a penalty payment process to mitigate, review, and track all penalty payments related to regulatory compliance issues. Provide regular reporting to business partners on savings and trends.
Update and maintain regulatory compliance reference guide by removing duplications and formalizing ownership among internal business partners of inspection/violation type. Create an ongoing update and communication strategy based on change within the organization.
Work with FD Operations to manage banner-specific violations consistently across the Enterprise.
Monitor regulatory updates from agencies that directly impact the Enterprise (FDA, Health Departments, Fire Departments, Department of Agriculture, etc.).
Analyze change and contribute to strategies to update applicable programs, procedures and or policies according to regulatory changes.
Assist with special projects that impact any regulatory compliance function.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications - Summary of knowledge, experience, and education required.
Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Environmental Services or related field
5-7 years of experience in Safety, Regulatory Compliance, Environmental Health or Retail, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Strong analytical skills and excellent written and verbal communications skills
Pro-active and collaborative mindset with an ability to work in a fast-paced team environment, handling multiple tasks and meeting deadlines
Knowledge of relevant retail regulations and compliance requirements
Ability to travel on short notice
Previous supervisory experience demonstrating strong management skills
Desired Qualifications - Desired but not required.
OSHA Certification (General Industry 10 or other) and/or other regulatory compliance certification
Experience working in a corporate risk management department
Retail experience
Intermediate technology skills related to Excel, queries, and insurance company risk management information systems
