Role and Responsibilities
The Planning & Purchasing Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing the procurement process and aligning those activities to accurate predictions of product demand. Responsible for managing the planning & purchasing teams, negotiating with suppliers, and ensuring the timely and cost-effective acquisition of goods and services.
This role ensures that the organization maintains optimal inventory levels, reduces carrying costs, enhances overall supply chain efficiency and contributes significantly to the overall efficiency and profitability of the company.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning:
Develop and implement effective procurement strategies aligned with organizational goals.
Collaborate with department heads to understand their procurement needs and requirements.
Conduct market research to identify potential suppliers, assess product and service offerings, and stay informed about industry trends.
Supplier Management:
Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers.
Negotiate favorable terms, conditions, and pricing agreements with suppliers.
Evaluate supplier performance, ensuring quality, delivery, and cost standards are met.
Identify and onboard new suppliers, fostering a diverse and reliable supplier base.
Work closely with suppliers to communicate demand forecasts and ensure timely and accurate deliveries.
Inventory Planning and Demand Forecasting:
Develop and implement robust inventory forecasting models based on historical data, market trends, and input from sales and marketing teams.
Collaborate closely with sales, marketing, and production teams to understand market demand, new product introductions, and promotional activities that may impact inventory needs.
Implement strategies to address seasonality, product life cycles, and other factors influencing demand variability.
Continuously monitor and analyze inventory levels in relation to forecasted demand, making adjustments to prevent stock outs or excess inventory.
Procurement Process Oversight:
Develop and enforce procurement policies and procedures.
Streamline and optimize the procurement process to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards.
Planning Oversight:
Coordinate the entire production process to ensure on-time completion of manufacturing orders to meet demand.
Manage MRP to ensure action messages and purchasing signals are accurate and followed.
Work closely with Production to ensure the weekly production schedule is completed.
Develop and improve planning practices to world class.
Team Leadership:
Manage and lead the purchasing& planning teams, providing guidance, support, and mentorship.
Set performance goals, conduct regular performance reviews, and facilitate professional development opportunities for team members.
Foster a collaborative and efficient work environment within the purchasing department.
Budget Management:
Develop and manage the purchasing budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness and financial accountability.
Monitor and control expenditures, identifying opportunities for cost savings without compromising quality.
Risk Management:
Identify and mitigate potential risks in the supply chain.
Develop contingency plans to address supply chain disruptions.
Communication and Collaboration:
Collaborate with various departments, including finance, production, and logistics, to ensure seamless coordination.
Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders to understand their requirements and expectations.
Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus. APICS Certification is a plus.
Proven experience as a Purchasing/Planner Manager or in a similar role.
Strong negotiation skills and the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with suppliers.
Excellent leadership and team management abilities.
In-depth knowledge of procurement principles, practices, and regulations.
Analytical and strategic thinking skills.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
