Job Description:
The Materials Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing the total material and inventory strategy for all contract and non-contract material at a single site and ensures a high degree of support to the site master production schedule. This role will work closely with the Procurement Manager and Master Scheduling team to ensure material is proactively planned, ordered, received, stored, and issued to the manufacturing line to support the manufacturing need date, master schedule attainment, and customer on-time delivery. The Material Manager will own the site MRP process and ensure the material strategy supports the production schedule through effective data and backlog management, planning techniques, ERP/MRP expertise, and inventory accuracy.
Essential Functions:
Lead the materials planning, shipping/receiving, and inventory teams to plan for, control, and handle all contract and non-contract inventory for a site or group of sites.
Own the MRP tool at the site and ensure a high level of data integrity and inventory accuracy to effectively plan for every part for every program.
Work closely with the site Procurement Manager to ensure the PR – PO process is executed on in a timely fashion and supports the overall material strategy, while also leading the site’s supply planning strategy.
Ensures a high level of inventory accuracy through an effective cycle count program and supports all site MMAS requirements (BOM accuracy, Inventory Accuracy, and MPS Attainment).
Drives the receiving team to meet a strict dock-to-stock metric to support the tight production schedules that are common in defense manufacturing.
Works closely with the master scheduling/production planning team to ensure MRP aligns with the site Master Production Schedule and high-risk/ late material is prioritized to minimize production impacts.
Collaborate with the analytics team to develop and maintain reporting that supports the operational and supply chain metrics:
MRP use and data integrity/population
PO Meeting Mfg. Need by Date
Inventory Accuracy
Material Receipt Cycle Time
Work Order/Kitting Execution
Master Schedule Attainment
Help to ensure the supply/inventory side of the site SIOP process is properly represented and planned for in all SIOP related activities.
Develop and execute on a warehousing and storage strategy that capitalizes on physical capacity and supports a high-volume manufacturing facility.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
Strong project management experience.
Six Sigma, Lean, or APICS certification; CPIM certification highly desired.
Experience with manufacturing capacity planning.
Knowledge of the Sales, Inventory, and Ops Planning (SIOP) process.
Strong knowledge of MRP and ERP.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to communicate, influence, and lead across multiple levels, teams, and business units.
Preferred Additional Skills:
A degree in engineering, operations management, supply chain management, or other technical discipline is preferred.
Knowledge in defense program planning desired.
Change agent and leader who can help transform the organization and maintain a high level of engagement.
Leads process improvement initiatives with little to no direction and supervision.
