JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Manager Design Engineering located in Pickering, ON .
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Design Engineering, the Manager Design Engineering will provide oversight and coordination of design engineering and projects design support to our Advance Inspection & Maintenance (AIM) organization.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Provide advice and/or direction to Advance Inspection & Maintenance (AIM) organization, review designs and sign Field Initiated Changes;
Lead a team of engineering professionals and as a coach to create and sustain a supportive, team environment, actively working with staff to empower them to attain optimal work performance with a high level of personal responsibility and self-management;
Provide assurance that an engineering activity such as modification perform its intended function without adversely impacting a nuclear facility’s design basis or causing a deterioration of a facility’s design margin;
Perform field support during troubleshooting, inspections, acceptance and approvals;
Approve Design Change Packages such as Modifications, Temporary Modifications and Non-Identical Component Replacements;
Engage in correspondence with various regulatory bodies including Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC);
Maintaining written documented processes and procedures to reflect improved operating methods and additions to all supported systems;
Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to develop first of a kind conceptual tool designs used for specialized plant and equipment inspection programs and to review and except final design change packages for these designs;
Provide Engineering Change Control guidance, provide active support to field issues and Field Initiated Changes, and facilitate a positive outcome with Engineer-Procure-Construct (EPC) vendor partners;
Gather input from stakeholder departments and agencies to ensure project requirements are captured and detailed in the project documents;
Understand impacts on cost and schedule, and provide support to minimize impacts driving projects;

EDUCATION
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred, but opened to Electrical or Instrumentation & Control disciplines
Licensed Professional Engineer (P. Eng) designation in good standing with Professional Engineers Ontario
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of 10 years experience in design engineering, preferably with Nuclear, Oil and Gas, Automotive or Manufacturing;
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a manager/supervisory role;
Experience in producing design engineering deliverables including, but not limited to conceptual design, front end engineering, detailed design engineering, calculations, technical specifications, design requirements, is considered an asset;
Relevant work experience with Nuclear Codes and Standards including, but not limited to CSA N285, ASME, ISA, CSA 22, N286, N299 and other standards related to Electrical, I&C, or Mechanical design;
Experience and ability as a team player to understand and manage the interrelationships of various internal and external groups in order to facilitate objectives and ensure projects satisfy stakeholder requirements;
Strong written and verbal communication skills;
Have a strong interest in fast-paced, challenging work environment where showing initiative and self motivation are assets; proven track record on delivering results;
Strong in understanding, executing and following governance and procedures with a questioning and analytical attitude/approach under minimum required supervision;
Knowledge of OPG’s ECC Process (Engineering Change Control) will be an asset;
Requires understanding of problem solving processes to evaluate and propose improvements to processes, equipment and systems or to unit safety, reliability and performance.
