The primary purpose of this job is to perform a variety of mammography procedures and exams that require independent judgment, technical skill and knowledge of the process of diagnosis of breast disease,
Read, be with familiar with, participate in periodic education/training regarding, and comply with, Corporate Compliance Program, Code of Conduct, and other corporate compliance policies
Education:
High School Diploma or GED,
Experience in radiology, mammography and interventional breast procedures,
Certificate LicensureTraining:
Completion of an AMA accredited School of Radiology Program; completion of the required initial 40 hours of training specific to breast imaging; continuing education as required by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and the FDA/Mammography Quality Standards Act,
ARRT certified in Radiology and Mammography, NJ State x-ray license
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Basic keyboarding skills,
Must be able to communicate effectively by speaking clearly and distinctly in English,
Preferred qualifications include word processing, Windows applications,
Job Specific Requirements
Mastery of Technical Skills
Responsible to use correct patient positioning for routine and diagnostic radiographic imaging of the breast,
Responsible to have a complete knowledge of mammography equipment, able to select correct exposure factors in order to produce optimum images in accordance with prescribed radiation safety standards,
Assesses breast images for quality assurance based on the guidelines of the American College of Radiology,
Assists the radiologist in the performance of interventional breast procedures,
Maintaining Patient Safety
Responsible to be familiar with and practice JCAHO guidelines for patient safety in a variety of situations including but not limited to: falls risk, universal protocol, site verification, medication labeling, hands-off communication and medication reconciliation,
Maintains infection control standards and policies,
Practices appropriate problem solving strategies for patient related issues and inter/intradepartmental issues,
Provides appropriate patient education and explanations of procedures and discharge instructions,
Communication
Responsible to communicate clearly written and verbal instructions, access language interpreters, relay information to and from physicians,
Presents to the interpreting radiologist a clear and precise patient history and other information directly related to the care of the patient,
Communicates directly with the patient's healthcare providers any information related to the care of the patient,
Communicates directly with patient's family members the amount of information permitted by the patient as to procedure scheduling, procedure status, completion of exams and outcomes,
Provides privacy for patients when conducting verbal interviews in the department,
Maintenance of Equipment
Performs daily Quality Control tests and participates in the QC program under the direction of the senior technologist to insure equipment calibration and equipment performance,
Maintains orderliness and cleanliness; secures and returns supplies; keeps supervisor informed of levels of stock supplies,
Reports any malfunctioning equipment to the senior technologist or the director for appropriate action,
Responsible for the maintenance of patient charts and filing of completed paperwork to the correct area,
