About Maintenance Mechanic

  Summary Position is within the FAA, Air Traffic Organization, Technical Operations, which reports to the District System Support Centers. The work involves the application of the following trade practice areas: carpentry, electrical, mechanical, Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC), and/or plumbing trades. Responsibilities Works alone or in a group performing Mechanical, Electrical, Carpentry, Plumbing, Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC), Cable Installation/Replacement, Welding/Metal Fabrication, Painting, and concrete work. Incumbent accomplishes major and minor construction, replacement, or repairs associated with all types of building facilities, and structures, both indoors and outdoors. These activities are inclusive of roof, siding, doors, windows, fences, framing, equipment platforms, and accomplishment of "finish" work. Works from blueprints, work orders, plans, sketches and other written specifications and/or oral instructions. Maintains, repairs and uses a variety of hand tools, testing equipment and power equipment characteristic of the various trades. Uses ammeter, voltmeter, test lamp, electric drill press, and various electrician hand tools. Incumbent accomplishes routine and emergency repair, evaluation, and installation of buildings and structures, facilities, and grounds maintenance. Constructs forms for pouring concrete footings, slabs, steps, walks, and repairs foundations. Uses common hand tools in performing tasks. Cleans brushes, rollers, spray guns, tank and hose with solvent. Maintains other tools and equipment and vehicles in safe and good working condition. Incumbent must be capable of operating or learning computer programs to include but not limited to Microsoft Word and Excel. Incumbent must be capable of using dedicated maintenance logging software. The incumbent may be required to operate diesel/gasoline powered heavy equipment such as trenchers, backhoes, boom trucks, front end loaders, and trailers. Performs other duties as assigned. However, you must show evidence of experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality that demonstrates your ability to perform the duties of a Maintenance Mechanic. The position requires knowledge, skill and abilities in various trades of work such as mechanical, electrical, carpentry, plumbing, welding/metal fabrication, painting and general knowledge of electronics and equipment. Candidates must show experience at the level of difficulty and responsibility appropriate to the position. Eligible candidates will be ranked based on KSAs, if applicable. The incumbent may be required to operate diesel/gasoline powered heavy equipment such as trenchers, backhoes, boom trucks, front end loaders, and trailers. Physical Effort: Must be able to perform physical duties which include (but is not limited to) considerable lifting heavy materials and working tools, extensive standing, bending, lifting, pushing and pulling are inherent in this position. Working Conditions: Incumbent will work both inside and outside during all kinds of weather conditions, including varying temperatures. Adverse weather and/or hazardous conditions will require the use of protective clothing and gear, safety devices, and safe trade practices. Incumbent must be physically able to wear OSHA standard personal protective equipment (PPE) per 29 CFR. This is a bargaining unit position.
