  Job Description

  Mission Technologies, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, is looking for a qualified individual to fill the role of Installation Team Installer for their Advanced Modeling and Simulation Technical Operation. The LMON Field Service Engineer is responsible for assisting in the installation of LMON equipment at host sites throughout the United States and selected international locations, according to pre-determined configurations and plans. The field service engineer will be required to interpret installation design plans (CAD drawings), and implement the installation according to those plans, making local modifications where required, appropriate and directed by the Team Leader. Additionally, the field service engineer will ensure that LMON Installations are completed in a timely, consistent, high quality, and professional manner. This is a hands-on position; the Installation engineer is expected to work alongside the installation team leader to complete all tasking on time, and to take a primary role in terminating fiber optic, Ethernet, and RF cables. Finally, the Installation engineer must ensure that all installations are completed in accordance with relevant USAF instructions and security directives.

  Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and submit travel plans and requests to the team leader, according to NSWC policy.

  • At times, travel independently for cable and cable management installations.

  • Conduct LMON Installations, to include racks, network, radio, antenna, and computer equipment installation, power connection, and cable fabrication, as assigned by the installation Team Leader.

  • Assist in conducting System Operational Verification Testing (SOVT) and quality control testing for completed installations.

  • Assist in the return shipment of retrograde LMON Equipment and tools to LMON logistics sites or other warehouse, in collaboration with LMON Logisticians.

  • Assist in revising/red-lining Installation Design Plan drawings to reflect minor changes made during actual construction (i.e., provide as-built information to LMON Draftsman).

  • May assist with US Navy NCTE installations when not actively working on LMON installations.

  • Experience working in a government contracting environment

  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail

  • Self-motivated and driven desire to succeed

  • Ability to work both in a team and individually

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skill

  • Must be a US citizen and hold a current DoD Secret Clearance with the ability to maintain it

  Minimum Qualifications

  • 0 years experience with Bachelors in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 4 years relevant experience.

  • High School diploma, or equivalent experience, in basic computer installation or similar, relevant field.

  • 3 years’ experience installing complex Information Technology (IT) systems, to include network installation.

  • 3 years’ IT installation experience within a military or government context (can be concurrent with the item above).

  • Experience with conducting IT system installations in classified environments.

  • Ability to read, understand, and implement IT system installations based upon engineering level installation design plan drawings.

  • An understanding of electrical and HVAC concepts, specifically related to systems required to support IT installations. This includes the concepts of electrical grounding, heat/power conversion, and IT System cooling principles and best practices.

  • Ability to correctly and successfully terminate fiber optic and copper Category 6 Ethernet cables, as well as RF cables.

  • Basic knowledge of US Government Tempest regulations

  • Basic knowledge of SECNAV INST M5510.36

  • Familiarity with SPAWAR Shore Installation Process Handbook.

  • Ability to lift repeatedly 30 pounds, work on ladders, manlifts, and work in confined spaces.

  • Ability to travel, away from home base. ( 25-50% of year on travel)

  Preferred Requirements

  • Experience with Protected Distribution System installation is a significant benefit.

  • Familiarity with USAF and USN cryptographic devices is a significant benefit.

  • Advanced knowledge of IT network installations, to include network design concepts; CISCO Certified Network Associate certification is a significant advantage.

  Physical Requirements

  May require working in an industrial or shipboard environment. Normally not required to lift more than 40 pounds higher than three feet above feet/floor level. May encounter extremes of temperature, pollution, humidity, noise, and other environmental factors while collecting data, observing performance of task teams.
