Job Summary
To provide primary mental health care for students presenting withmental health concerns.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties are listed in order of greatest importance. Otherresponsibilities may be assigned.
Take patient histories, sufficient to address the patient\'s chiefcomplaint and other mental health concerns.Provide mental health assessment and treatment for students withmental health problems. Appropriate treatments may includeindividual, couples and group psychotherapy, or referral forhospitalization, and be consistent with limitations of MHU staffresources.Provide emergency triage for crisis evaluation and management,including development of a safety /crisis plan, when necessary.Conduct individual, couples, and group psychotherapy, if applicable.Individual and couples therapy will ordinarily be short term.Make referrals to other providers as appropriate to facilitatetreatment plans with standard and crisis interventions. This mayinclude out-patient psychotherapeutic techniques or facilitatinghospitalization at community hospitals on behalf of students.Consult with other mental health care professionals, physiciansand/or health care professionals to confirm difficult diagnosis andfacilitate appropriate treatment plan.Ensure that patients receive adequate education to effectivelyparticipate in their diagnostic and therapeutic plan, and that theyunderstand and assent to that plan and understand other appropriatealternatives.Complete all visit documentation in an appropriate and timely manneras determined by policy.Display competency about diagnosis and procedure coding.Adhere to established Health Center policies and proceduresincluding maintenance of records.Develop and maintain technical skills necessary to provide excellentand efficient patient care. This includes competency with computerapplications that enhance individual patient care and the efficiencyof the health center.Be efficient in the care of patients regarding time spent withpatients, number of patients seen, and resources utilized, such asconsultations.Be effective in the care of patients, regarding overall patientoutcomes, satisfaction and cultural competence.Provide patients with access by staffing clinics and special eventsper policy.Provide mental health consultation to Mental Health Unit clinicians.Provide mental health consultation to health service providers,Counseling Center staff, Housing and other appropriate Universityfaculty and staff.Share on-call responsibilities for after-hours and weekend mentalhealth emergencies. (Currently, there are no formal on-callresponsibilities. This policy is subject to change if Universityneeds should require.)Participate in Mental Health Unit staff meetings and caseconferences.Actively participate in McKinley\'s quality improvement and riskmanagement programs and its peer review processes as outlined inpolicy and annual plans.Attend and participate in assigned McKinley and campus committees.Participate in university and health center promotions andpromotional material as needed.Assume appropriate related additional duties to further the missionof the unit.Utilize other members of the health care team appropriate to theirskill level, licensure, andclassification.Treat patients, staff, and colleagues with courtesy and respect.Adhere to University, Civil Service, Health Center and individualu it policies and procedures that serve as guidelines for individualpractice. Guidelines for patient care management are the protocolsof care.Work within scope of practice and comply with privileges granted.Responsible and accountable to support and ensure a culture ofsafety, quality, and risk management including compliance withethics.Stay informed of the newest developments in mental health byattending educational conferences, literature reviews, andconsulting with other clinical personnel.Maintain a current Illinois license.Physical Demands

Minimum Qualifications
A valid LCSW (licensed clinical social worker) or LCPC (licensedclinical professional counselor) IL license or eligibility for one. PhDor PsyD in psychology; or Masters degree in Social Work. State ofIllinois clinical psychologist license or eligibility for one.
