  DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  The Houston Public Library seeks a customer-service driven, creative, and energetic Library Service Supervisor who has strong leadership skills, an ability to inspire staff, and a passion for serving as a hands-on and highly engaged manager at the Central Library. The preferred candidate for this position will possess an interest and experience in Business services and/or Education literacy.

  The Library Service Supervisor will:

  Help lead business services including programs, outreach, library tours, staff training, workshops for library patrons.

  Oversee and coordinate team members to effectively complete tasks, and may include maintaining monthly staffing, outreach, and programming schedules.

  Overseeing creative and innovative programs and library services for all ages including job searching, programs and workshops for adults

  Engaging with the community through outreach and developing collaborative relationships with local community organizations to provide library services.

  Take initiative to creatively solve problems and possess sound decision-making skills.

  Exhibit a high level of creativity for innovative services and programming.

  Have a working knowledge of Microsoft operating system and software.

  Perform collection development and maintenance.

  Other duties as assigned.

  Work one evening a week and every other weekend (Saturday and/or Sunday).

  WORKING CONDITIONS

  Position requires stooping and bending; lifting of library up to 20 pounds. Must be able to move freely throughout the work space. Moderate analytic ability is required in applying guidelines, policies, and in adapting standard methods to fit facts and conditions. Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in writing.

  MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  Requires a Bachelor's degree.

  EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  Four (4) years of professional library, information services, or education experience are required.

  PREFERENCES

  Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.

  Knowledge of current versions of MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook), Sirsi Symphony and excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skill are preferred. Experience in personnel management and supervision. Knowledge and experience with Business services in libraries and/or education literacy.
