Job Description
Loudoun County Public Library is currently seeking qualified applicants for a part-time (20 hours per week) Library Assistant position. We seek an individual who will be an enthusiastic, creative team player with excellent communication skills and dedication to customer service. Duties will include assisting staff and promoting the library to the public by scheduling and hosting programs at locations across the library system, participating in community engagement events, developing and distributing marketing materials, and managing the inventory and distribution of promotional items. Strong customer service, organizational and interpersonal skills are essential for this position.
15 hours a week will be spent at Library Administration and at various branches, and 5 hours a week will be spent at the Cascades Library for the After Hours Teen Center Program. The After Hours Teen Center (AHTC) is an award-winning weekly program held on Fridays from 6 to 9 p.m. at Cascades Library. Up to 125 teens attend each week to enjoy video games, crafts, and other special activities. The AHTC staff work 4:30-9:30 p.m. each week and are expected to plan and lead activities and to monitor teen behavior during the program.
LCPL provides services seven (7) days a week. Location is subject to change based on the Library system's operational needs. Work schedules vary and include weekends, evenings and holidays.
Salary commensurate with experience.
Job Requirements
Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a High School Diploma and two (2) years prior experience providing direct customer service to the public. Experience working with teens is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Microsoft Office programs and Canva
Bilingual - Spanish/English
Special Requirements
Requires ability to push or pull wheeled carts weighing 200 pounds. Constant bending, stooping, reaching, walking and standing required. Ability to lift 40 pounds required. Ability to lift books, set up heavy tables, chairs and promotional tents required. Passport Acceptance Agent certification and Notary Public License may be required within one year of hire date.
