Lecturer & Public Speaking Lab Coordinator - Division of Interdisciplinary Programs
The State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY-ESF) invites applications for a Composition and Public Presentation Skills Lecturer and Public Speaking Lab Coordinator to commence in fall 2023 for a three-year term, which is renewable. We are particularly interested in candidates with a commitment to diversity and inclusiveness. Equally so, we look for candidates who possess a collaborative work ethic and leadership skills. This is a full-time teaching position and hired applicants will not be required to conduct research or scholarship beyond that which enhances the value of the Public Speaking Lab.
Brief Summary of Duties: In coordination with the Director of the Writing, Rhetoric and Communications Program, the hired applicant will:
Teach a 4-4 course load of Public Presentations Skills and Professional Writing courses in the Writing, Rhetoric and Communications Program.
Oversee operations of the Public Speaking Lab, including goal setting, budgeting, and assessment.
Tutor students with diverse academic, cultural, and language backgrounds.
Hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate undergraduate tutors.
Manage PSL website content, software, and digital media.
Conduct workshops and events to enhance skills and appreciation of public speaking at ESF.
Collaborate with other direct to student service programs at ESF such as the Digital Storytelling Studio, Writing Resource Center, and the English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Center.
Starting Salary: $50,000 - $55,000

Required Qualifications:
MA/MFA required
Higher education instruction experience.
Curriculum development experience.
Administrative experience (track record of working across documents, balancing budgets, designing workshops and courses, and managing peers/colleagues).
Preferred Qualifications:
Terminal degree with focus on interdisciplinary scholarship drawing on science and technology studies; information literacy; and digital humanities.
Prior leadership role in a student-facing service or direct to student service environment in a higher education setting.
Experience working with ESOL writers.
