Lead Scientist, Oligonucleotide Chemistry

The R&D Assay Product development team is looking for a Lead Scientist to join the Core Services team. This role is responsible for R&D level small-scale and large-scale oligonucleotide synthesis and purification and will act as a subject matter expert for assay and oligonucleotide designs. Furthermore, the Lead Scientist will lead a team of analytical chemists responsible for analyses of various components of the molecular assay development process, including method development, root-cause investigations as well as stability studies. The Lead Scientist is expected to develop wide-ranging knowledge in applicable areas of Hologic’s Diagnostic Assays and Technology and to use those concepts to support all global assay development teams in creative and effective ways.
So what will you do?
The Lead Scientist is responsible for guiding and working alongside a team of oligonucleotide and analytical chemists and will work in close collaboration with all R&D teams to support, streamline and accelerate assay development efforts. The Scientist will also work in close collaboration with other departments to act as a subject matter expert in oligonucleotide and analytical chemistry. This position requires working on complex issues with a deep technical understanding of reagent chemistry and related instrumentation.
Responsible for leading oligonucleotide and analytical chemistry teams, supporting R&D assay development needs.
Will directly manage multiple Scientists and Research Associates responsible for different projects.
Represents R&D on decision making teams.
May be called on to represent the company at conferences (presenting or attending) or with regulatory bodies.
Is seen as a leader by effectively managing and mentoring junior level employees and communicating and collaborating with colleagues at all levels and in all departments of the organization.
Demonstrated the ability to resolve complex technical issues.
Provides guidance to other departments to ensure success of projects.
May interact with upper management in communicating project status, issues and resourcing
Will support Feasibility, Assay design and transfer, formulation optimization and transfer, assay integration and V&V
Engages cross-functionally (Operations, Commercial, Regulatory, Quality, other R&D) in order to achieve program goals.
We would like you to have:
A deep understanding of oligonucleotide chemistry, synthesis and purification, including base as well as backbone modifications.
Significant experience in analytical chemistry and related instrumentation, especially related to root-cause analysis investigations.
Excellent track record of managing, retaining and mentoring junior level scientists.
Prior experience in molecular biology, mainly nucleic-acid-based diagnostic assays, such as experience with isothermal amplification or PCR, preferred.
Working knowledge of enterprise tools, including electronic document & records management tools (SAP, Oracle, Agile), Microsoft office, JMP
Required Education and Experience:
Ph.D. with 4-6 years of industry experience, or
8-10 years laboratory experience post M.S. with thesis. Industrial experience preferred.
Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related field.
2 - 3 years of experience managing or supervising a team

The total compensation range for this role is $124,100.00 - $206,800.00 and is bonus eligible. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on factors including relevant experience, skillset, knowledge, territory/ geography, education, business needs, market demand and performance.
