LEAD EKG/PHLEBOTOMIST TECHNOLOGIST

Job Description Summary

Under the general supervision of the Supervisor of Phlebotomy collects blood from patients, and performs related technical, clerical, and administrative duties as needed, including EKGs.

This position is 9a-530p with cross training between South 1 ambulatory care center and an off-site draw station. This role will include Residential Client Services as needed.

*We are currently offering a $3,000.00 sign-on bonus!

New hire to BILH system or a previous employee who left in good standing and returning to BILH after 1 year

Bonus to be paid out in 3 installments as long as employee is within good standing:

  $1,000---30 days after starting

  $1,000—6 months after starting

  $1,000---1 year from start

Important Details:

•Full time status at BIDMC is considered for schedules greater than or equal to 30 hours per week; part time status is 20 to 29 hours per week. Please note, per diem employees are not eligible for sign on bonuses.

• Please note, sign on bonuses are subject to change based on the organization’s hiring needs and will be determined by Talent Acquisition on an ongoing basis. BILH Talent Acquisition reserves the right to change sign on bonus eligible jobs and amounts at any time.

LEAD EKG/PHLEB

Job Description

Essential Duties Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

Collects blood specimens from adult and pediatric patients using venipuncture and capillary techniques, and following standard or prescribed methods and procedures. Performs EKGs as assigned, following SOP’s.

Interfaces with the Laboratory sections in the timely expedition of specimen procurement and assures proper labeling and transport of the specimens.

Performs associated clerical duties such as data entry on both the hospital and Laboratory computers.

Maintains blood-drawing area(s) in a clean and safe condition according to hospital and department policies and procedures.

Rotates weekends and holidays as needed or assigned.

Rotates in off-site (including home draws), drawing stations as needed or assigned.

Registers outpatients into the Meditech computer, with the correct insurance, demographic, and physician office data included.

Requests correct tests ordered by physicians and outreach offices and appropriately labels specimens. Properly matches computer labels to correct handwritten labels.

Delivers all specimens to their appropriate Laboratory areas, with emphasis on the timely delivery of Stat specimens and tests requiring specialized attention.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school graduate or equivalent with the ability to read, write, and comprehend instructions and have a basic knowledge of human anatomy.

Ability to read and write at level three as documented on "Invest," the hospital's Employee Learning Laboratory software.

Ability to develop technical skills and become familiar with policies and procedures. Need for general analytical skills to resolve minor conflicts and problems.

High level of interpersonal skills to interface with section staff, patients, physicians, and nurses in a professional manner

Physical Requirements Environment:

Walking and standing 90% of the time.

Exposure to biohazards and infectious patients and specimens 75% of the time.

Potential exposure to injury from needle punctures.

Normal laboratory setting with limited exposure to dust or extreme temperature variation.

Occasional exposure to portable x-ray machines on patient units.

Rotation among several off-site locations

Complies with precautions, as defined by Infection Control staff, in patients/materials requiring isolation.

Consistently uses sharps safety devices as designed to prevent injuries to self.
