  Buffalo, NY. Jericho Community Health Center. Language Services Team Member-Somali Speaking.FT. 1st Shift. $15.00/Hour.

  The Language Services Team Member is responsible for providing interpretation and translation services from one language into another in a multitude of settings and functions within the organization. The person in this role would be providing in person services as well as on the phone. Knowledge of medical, dental, mental health and program specific terms and functions is essential.

  QUALIFICATIONS:High School degree or equivalent.Solid knowledge base of medical practices and procedures within the primary care environment.Demonstrated ability and familiarity with tools, technology, and systems found within health care environments (such as Basic Computer Skills, Electronic Medical Records, Experience with Medent EMR a plus). Must be bilingual, multilingual preferred.

  PATIENT INTAKE AND CARE:Follow ethical codes that protect the confidentiality of information.Adhere to all HIPAA regulations.Educate patients, and staff about the roles and functions of interpreters.Explain and interpret for patients in their own language medical results, instructions and directions.Schedule outside specialists and JRCHC appointments for patients.Ensure all clinical care is delivered in a manner that meets or exceeds goals and expectations for clinical outcomes, quality assurance standards, state/local regulations, and patient satisfaction.Practice and model high levels of ethical behavior while interacting with patients and appropriate staff.

  INTERPRETATION AND TRANSLATION:Have a working knowledge of how to operate within the Medent (EMR) system, healthcare regulations and compliance within the healthcare system, Department of Health and HRSA standards.Must be comfortable using a third party language provider over the phone to assist with triages that we do not have an in-house interpreter for.Translate messages simultaneously or consecutively into specified languages, orally or by using hand signs, maintaining message content, context, and style as much as possible.Listen to speakers' statements to determine meanings and to prepare translations.Compile terminology and information to be used in translations, including technical terms such as those for legal or medical material.Read written materials, such as legal documents, and rewrite material into specified languages.Identify and resolve conflicts related to the meanings of words, concepts, practices, or behaviors.Check translations of technical terms and terminology to ensure that they are accurate and remain consistent throughout translation revisions.

  TEAMWORK:Ensure all actions, personal conduct, and communications represent the organization in a highly professional manner at all times.Collaborating with other team members on projects related to Jericho Road Community Health Center strategic goals. Uphold and ensure compliance to all policies/procedures, mission, and organizational values.Support community outreach initiatives as directed by supervisor.Train other members of language services teams as translators or interpreters.
