JOB TITLE: Landscape LaborersMULTIPLE WORKSITES: Portage and Summit counties

JOB DESCRIPTION: *Anticipated Start Date of Work: 04/01/2023 - * *Anticipated End Date of Work: 12/05/2024. * Perform manual labor to landscape or maintain grounds of property using hand or power tools or equip. Install sod, mow, trim, mulch, spread, dig, shovel, blow, edge, and haul. Operate powered equip such as mowers, tractors, twin-axle vehicles, chain-saws, electric clippers, sod cutters, and pruning saws. Use hand tools such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, saws, hedge and brush trimmers, and axes. Perform routine maintenance on equip and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed. Mow and edge/trim lawns using power mowers and edgers. Care for established lawns by mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing and removing thatch, and trimming and edging around flower beds, walks, and walls. Water lawns, trees, and plants using portable sprinkler systems, hoses, or watering cans. Use irrigation methods to adjust the amount of water consumption and to prevent waste. Follow planned landscaping designs to determine where to lay sod, sow grass, or plant flowers and foliage. Plant and cultivate lawns and gardens. Haul or spread topsoil, and spread straw over seeded soil to hold soil in place. Trim & pick flowers and clean flower beds. Decorate gardens with stones and plants. Install rock gardens by using wheelbarrows to transport rocks from the truck to the rock garden area. Dump the rocks and then spread them out with a landscape rake or hands. Rocks will be 12 in in diameter or less. Install ponds by using shovels & wheelbarrows to excavate a shallow pond area approximately 2 ft deep and diameter of 12' or less. Assist the crew leader with placing 2" PVC pipe from pond to pump housing. Assist in the placement of a rubber liner into the excavated area and then line that pond with rocks approximately 50 pds each or less and assorted small gravel. Use a garden hose to fill the pond with adequate water supply. Install drainage systems by using shovels and wheelbarrows to excavate a 12-in wide and 16-in deep trench for 4-in drain tile. Length of this trench could vary depending on the drainage installation. Use shovels and wheelbarrows to fill in the trench with either gravel or soil depending upon the job. Use wheelbarrows, shovels, and landscape rakes to cover the drain tile with topsoil. Use a hand seed spreader to lay grass seed on the topsoil and then spread straw by hand to cover the drain tile region so that grass may grow. Install retaining walls by using manufactured concrete landscape decorative blocks weighing 13-50 pds, depending on the style of block used as the material for walls. Use wheelbarrows to carry the blocks, shovels to add base gravel, and their hands to stack the blocks 2-4' in height. May use a one-man gas powered tamper to tamp the base gravel adequately. May lift and place or replace the block in wall as necess. Assist the crew leader in installing a 4" perforated PVC pipe behind the wall for drainage as well as use a shovel to add gravel behind the wall as back fill. Install planters by using wheelbarrows and small hand shovels to add soil to planters and place/plant small decorative plants as directed by crew leader. Rake, mulch, and compost leaves. Prune and trim trees, shrubs, and hedges using shears, pruners, or chain saws. Workers tasks will be to prune and trim trees on the ground. Attach wires from planted trees to support stakes. Plant seeds, bulbs, foliage, flowering plants, grass, ground covers, trees, and shrubs, and apply mulch for protection using gardening tools. Gather an
