About This Role:
Join the Facilities Ground Maintenance team as a Landscape TechnicianII. You will participate in planting, watering, fertilizing, pruning,weed whipping, mowing, pulling and hoeing weeds, raking leaves, pickingup trash and debris, cleaning sidewalks, mulching, and snow removal byoperating various tools and equipment of the trade. Perform plumbing andelectrical duties to operate, maintain, repair, and install irrigationsystems on campus grounds. Hours are Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-3:30 PM.
The role of the Grounds Maintenance and Landscape Department is toprovide a safe, functional and aesthetically pleasing exteriorenvironment for the students, faculty and staff of Kansas StateUniversity.

Duties / Responsibilities:

Minimum Requirement:
Requires six months of relevant experience. Education may besubstituted for experience as determined relevant by a hiringmanager. This position is covered by the Kansas Association ofPublic Employees (KAPE) agreement.Preferred Qualifications:
Skill in use and operations of tools, machines and equipmentcommonly used in plumbing and electrical work at the skilled craftlevel.18 months experience in performing irrigation work and institutiongrounds experience.Ability to write concise, meaningful reports.Perform mathematical computations necessary to make accurateestimates for supplies such as fertilizer, grass seed, flowers andchemicals.Knowledge and ability to use soil testing equipment. Ability to readand make recommendations from soil test results.Thorough knowledge f plant materials and accepted horticulturepractices.Knowledge of methods, practices, techniques, and tools used in theplanting and care of trees, shrubs, grasses, and plants.Knowledge of the hazards, proper use and effects insecticides andherbicides.Six months experience in equipment operation.High school graduate of equivalent.Training at post secondary institution in nursery management,landscape horticulture, agronomy, horticulture, forestry, or plantpathology and knowledge of all phases of horticultural practicespreferred.Arborist training and experience in utilizing landscape plans andblueprint reading would be beneficial.Other Requirements:
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States atthe time of employment.
Valid driver\'s license upon employment and maintain it.
3A and 3B commercial pesticide applicator\'s license required within the6 month probationary period.
Considerable physical exertion is required to transport equipmentassociated with the position, often involving times weighing up to 75pounds, unassisted, on a repetitive basis, daily.
