Summary About the Position: About the Position: Sierra Army Depot is located in Herlong CA, a rural town in Northern California. Herlong is approximately 60 miles north of Reno, NV, and 35 miles south of Susanville, CA. The depot serves as an Army Expeditionary Logistical Support Center. Employees work Mon-Thurs, 0630-1700 hrs. Youth Facilities and childcare available. Mass transportation is available at minimal cost. Surrounding area boasts a full range of outdoor sports/recreation activities. Responsibilities Perform tasks that require substantial physical effort and significant multi-step manual skill. Separate, stack, carry, load/unload, assemble, and maintain a variety of equipment and material. Preserve mechanical and metal items, and large powered mechanical systems, vehicles, craft, against corrosion deterioration, and similar damage. Perform all aspects of standard preservation and/or packing work to preserve or ship a wide variety of equipment, tools, materials, and other items Work independently in a wide range of warehousing activities, including receiving, storing, selecting, and shipping general or specialized bulk and bin materials and equipment. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Laborer (Direct Hiring Authority) without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Laborer duties such separate, stack, carry, load/unload, assemble, and maintain a variety of equipment and material. I can clean, strip, sand, and perform other preparation work on items, equipment, and material. work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Frequently lift and move equipment, components, or material weighing up to 40 pounds and may be required to lift and carry, with assistance, items weighing up to 70 pounds. Perform work on hard surfaces in areas that require frequent standing, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Working Conditions: Is performed in areas varying from well lighted, heated, and ventilated to outside, unprotected areas; including areas that are drafty and poorly lighted. The work is sometimes dusty, dirty, and greasy. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, and bruises. May be exposed to noxious fumes, skin irritants, and flammable chemicals. In certain work situations involving hazardous materials, may be required to wear protective clothing and respirators, and other specialized protective devices, in addition to their basic protective equipment (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses and shoes, and ear plugs).
