Job Description Summary
The Laboratory Technician will perform routine medical laboratory testsfor the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. LaboratoryTechnician provides required technical support to enable the laboratoryto function effectively while adhering to correct procedures and healthand safety guidelines.

Job Description
The Laboratory Technician will:Perform and process specimen collectionincluding venipuncture and capillary draws, blood cultures, heel orfinger sticks, POC testing, ECG exams and special techniques fordifficult, pediatric or geriatric patients.Complete or cancel/dischargespecimens in the electronic medical record system to ensure compliantbilling.Distribute laboratory reports to physicians, which involvesretrieving test results from Shirley Ryan AbilityLab and/or NMHdatabases and forward to medical records for scanning into patient\'schart.Dispose of potentially hazardous material according toprotocol.Stock and monitor inventory of laboratory supplies and notifymanagement of shortages.Perform ECG exams per physician orders fortransmittal to NM Cardiology interpretationPerform all other duties thatmay be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley RyanAbilityLab.Reporting RelationshipsReports directly to the Manager,RadiologyKnowledge, Skills & Abilities RequiredHigh school diploma orequivalent.Certification from an accredited medical phlebotomy program,medical assistant program or equivalent.A minimum of one year ofexperience performing phlebotomy on a broad range of patient types in ahospital setting. ECG experience preferred.Prior work experience inpathology, laboratory support or health-related position.Familiarly withmedical terminology, billing and coding preferred.Ability to effectivelyuse a personal computer and working knowledge to perform data entry andanalysis. Experience with Cerner Healthcare Information system aplus.Communication and interpersonal skills necessary to interact withpatients and customers in various circumstances.Ability to collaborateeffectively in a team setting in order to maximize quality andefficiently of operations.Working ConditionsNormal office environmentwith little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.The abovestatements are intended to describe the general nature and level of workbeing performed by people assigned to this classification.
