  The College of Veterinary Medicine, Cornell University, seeks a self-motivated and mission-focused Technician III to to carry out experiments, analyze/present resulting data, manage breeding and typing of experimental mice and to support the day-to-day operation in the Fowell lab in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology.

  Overview of the research at the : Our lab focuses on understanding the dynamics of immune cell trafficking, migration and effector function using cutting edge imaging, single cell ex vivo assays, and genetic analysis.

  What you will do:

  Perform various experiments, analyze, and present resulting data during lab meetings.Assist lab members with harvesting of mouse tissues, cell isolation, and analytical measurements.Generating virus stocks and tittering infectious agents.Prepare and maintain primary and standard tissue cultures.Mouse colony maintenance (breeding, weaning, and bookkeeping).Processing tissue samples for and carrying out PCR, gel electrophoresis, and flow cytometry.Setting up and running of flow cytometry samples for analysis and sorting.Interpreting PCR and flow cytometry results.Utilize standard software for data analyses, visualization, and presentation.Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records.Maintain the day-to-day operations of the laboratory including inventory management and ordering, maintaining and aliquoting of common reagents, and training of new staff/trainees.Please note that this position is 39 hours per week, with a one-year appointment, subject to renewal based on performance and available funding. Must be comfortable in handling mice and rabbits after initial training.

  What you have:

  Associate's degree in Biology or a related field, up to 2 years of lab experience in molecular biology, chemistry, biochemistry, bacteriology, or infectious disease laboratory laboratory, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Basic math skills, excellent manual dexterity, interpersonal and organizational skills.Must have excellent reasoning skills, a strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects independently.This position requires successfully completing Cornell training courses (i.e., animal use, radioisotope use, chemical safety), if not already completed. Candidates must be comfortable working with BSL-2/2+ pathogens, hazardous chemicals, and mice.

  If you have all those things, great! Here are some preferred qualifications:

  Bachelor's degree in cell or molecular biology.Experienced in the management of mouse colonies, tissue harvests from mice, and subcutaneous and intravenous injections of mice.Experience with PCR and/or flow cytometry. On the job training will be supplied to help bridge any deficiencies in experience.
