WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER
Implementing prescribed fire to increase biodiversity and forest resilience is a primary land management strategy for TNC in Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania Fire Program Lead (FPL) works with government agencies, NGOs, academic institutions, and other partners across Pennsylvania to advance implementation of prescribed fire as an ecological management tool. They work with partners to identify needs and opportunities related to prescribed fire training, planning, preparation, implementation, and monitoring. The FPL will meet with organizations and landowners interested in prescribed fire to identify collaboration opportunities based on the partner needs and TNC goals. The FPL will be responsible for developing and overseeing implementation of a shared scope of work with the partner. The FPL may also assist with developing legal agreements that outline deliverables, liability, and funding.
The FPL serves as the primary point of contact for fire-related questions and needs in Pennsylvania. They are available to provide technical assistance, wildland fire trainings, and are an active leader in the Pennsylvania Prescribed Fire Council.
The FPL will work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances. The FPL will participate or lead burns as a NWCG Burn Boss in both TNC and partner burns. As part of the incumbent's ongoing professional development, they will be responsible for keeping abreast of new burn techniques and equipment to enhance skills and maintain/grow professional fire certification credentials.
